There are no less than 15 games on today, although if you live in the States, you may not be able to see any of them.  This, as you will know if you were around last season, is one of the reasons I love living in Canada.  Seven of those games are broadcast on TV up here and for someone who has been experiencing incredible hockey withdrawals, that is awesome news.

If you're so inclined, NHL.com also offers online viewing.

Among the games on tap today is a matchup between the Cup Champion Penguins and the New York Islanders.  The Pens took on the Rangers yesterday and won the game 3-2 in a game that featured a fist fight between Brashear and Godard that drew blood.  Yep, the season is definitely underway.

Chicago, Florida, Detroit and St. Louis are still overseas in Europe for their openers, so those games are on early.  The Chicago v. Florida game is just underway from Helsinki, Finland and is broadcast in Canada and the States. 

Early evening games also featured the Carolina Hurricanes taking on the Boston Bruins, as well as the aforementioned Pens v Islanders game.

The late night games are the ones I'm waiting for, though, when the San Jose Sharks meet up with the Anaheim Ducks, while my Calgary Flames face the Edmonton Oilers in the battle of Alberta.  In addition, the still owner-less Coyotes are in Los Angeles to take on the Kings.

I know it's still early season, but if you are taking a break from not-quite Playoff baseball or also-early-season football, or even early basketball, chat it up here.

I thought this was funny as heck when I was reading the injury report for tonight's game for the BOA

INJURIES

CALGARY -- D Cory Sarich (foot) questionable.

EDMONTON -- LW Ethan Moreau (ankle), C Marc Pouliot (pubic bone), and RW Fernando Pisani (back) all start the season on injured reserve.

It would just be better to post it as a lower body injury.

Blues get a power play goal late and trail 2-1 at the end of the 1st period.  I'll take it after seeing how the Red Wings came flying out of the gate the first 10 minutes or so

No offense Red Wing fans, but I seriously hope for your sake that Chris Osgood doesnt get hurt this year.  Blues get 2 "Five-Hole" goals in 13 seconds, take a 4-3 lead into the 3rd period

Osgood isn't exactly the greatest in the regular season either.  Last year Conklin was by far better over the season.  I'm not exactly confident in the goalie situation so far...

BTW, Crosby got a goal and assist tonight, giving him 400 points for his career.  He's the 6th fastest player to reach that mark.  I'm sure everyone can guess who #1 and #2 are on that list.

Calgary elite players were crap tonight except for Jay............. Glennie was by far the best forward out there. Put Bourque on the top line and take Moss off but leave him on the #1PP unit.

Horrible opening day  game for my young Kings. Poor puck decisions/control....the last three Coyote goals were from turn overs. UGHHHHHHHH---------Both Simmonds and Doughty made mistakes they didn't make in their rookie years last season. I hope they both don't experience the dreaded sophomore slump.

Got to keep telling myself that it is only one game and with any hope rookie they got playing now on defense will be sent down eventually. Alec Martinez is not ready for the NHL.

I have not see the Avs play but I have read on forums that Duchene is the real deal. I hate to say this but the Avs are not going to make the playoffs even though they are beat two teams expected to contend for the Cup.

I love Sutter already....... Iggy and Jokinen played 15 and 16 minutes respectively. Already we're seeing Brent make players more accountable. Having a horrible game? No effort? No push?

Your icetime gets cut. Even if you're the top 2 offensive players on the team.
