Washington and New Jersey have looked mighty fine of the past few weeks as each team has moved up in the standings and notched some big wins. Ovechkin decided the race for sixty goals was on again and has scored five goals his past two games. However, Washington remains twelve points back of Boston and is still below .500 hockey on the road. New Jersey on the other hand is 9-1 in their past ten games. Jamie Lagenbrunner has turned into Wayne Gretzky (not really) and the Devils are looking real strong. Oh yea, Brodeur isn’t back yet.
Over in the West Detroit is trying their best to lose. Or that’s what it seems like. They’ve lost five games in a row now, which is still far off from the one win in eleven games from last season at this time of year. They need to get the defense under control, but they should be fine. Meanwhile, San Jose is running away with the West with an eight-point lead over Detroit, which only keeps growing. Patrick Marleau is having a career year and this team looks better than they ever have.
Vancouver and Pittsburgh are two teams that keep playing themselves out of the playoffs. The Canucks have lost eight games in a row while the Penguins sit 10th in the East despite having the top two scorers in the NHL. Someone please explain that one to me.
