Sunday gave way to let two of the greatest US born players in NHL history continue their legacy. First off, Keith Tkachuk scored a goal midway through the third period in a game against the Atlanta Thrashers, making it his 1,000th career point. St. Louis came away with a rare win as well, 4-2. He is only the sixth American to notch 1,000 points, and that’s good for 72nd on the NHL’s all time scoring list.Mike Modano later scored the game-winning goal against Edmonton with 2:21 left in the third period. That was the 1,300th career point, the most all time among US born players and 31st overall on the NHL/s all time scoring list. The 4-3 win over Edmonton extends Dallas’s dominance over the Oilers in Texas, a 23-4-2 record since moving there from Minnesota in 1993.
Brian Burke was named the 12th General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs last Saturday. His contract runs through the 2014 season and with complete autonomy. His past experience includes making a Stanley Cup Champion out of the Anaheim Ducks with a mix of young talent and solid veterans.
Mike Sullivan, former Bruins head coach is returning to Tampa Bay as an assistant coach to Rick Tocchet.
Luke Richardson has retired from the NHL after 21 seasons. Richardson compiled 201 career points and appeared in one Stanley Cup Finals.

And now for the rankings…
30. Tampa Bay Lightning 6-10-7, (0-2-1): The Lightning lost all three games last week (again) and have dropped 8 of 9 games.
29. Atlanta Thrashers (-1) 8-12-3, (1-2-1): Joey Crabb made an appearance last week with ATL, just the 12th Alaskan to play in the NHL.
28. Florida Panthers (+1) 9-11-3, (2-0-2): FLA is 4-2 against division opponents, which will be their only shot at the playoffs.
27. Ottawa Senators 8-10-4, (1-1-0): Heatley, Spezza, Alfredsson, and Kuba have 76 points. The other twenty-two players, 64 points.
26. St. Louis Blues 10-10-2, (2-2-0): Positive points for St. Louis would their fourth best power play and sixth best penalty kill.
25. Dallas Stars 8-11-4, (2-2-0): The last time the Stars had two wins in one week was way back in October.
24. Toronto Maple Leafs 8-9-6, (1-1-1): The Leafs still only seem to play well on Saturday nights, losing to inferior teams throughout the week.
23. New York Islanders 10-12-2, (2-2-0): If the Islanders could just play an 82 game schedule against Canada, they’re 5-1 against Canadian teams.
22. Phoenix Coyotes (-1) 10-11-2, (2-2-0): The Coyotes played the Sharks tough but still lost. The loss of Olli Jokinen is going to hurt them unless someone else steps up.
21. Colorado Avalanche (-1) 11-12-0, (2-2-0): COL is at least beating teams with fewer points than them. Raycroft got his first win since Oct. 18 in third game since then.
20. Columbus Blue Jackets (-3) 10-10-3, (1-2-0): Their best win of the year so far came Saturday, as they should out the Capitals 3-0.
19. Edmonton Oilers (-6) 10-11-2, (1-2-0): The Oilers just aren’t the same team that came on at the end of last year. Sophomore slumps are affecting some of the younger guys.
18. Los Angeles Kings (+4) 10-9-3, (2-1-0): The Kings are doing well of late, spreading the scoring around and are just a point out of the playoffs.
17. Carolina Hurricanes (-2) 12-11-2, (1-3-0): The Canes might sit second in their division, but they’re a point away from being out of the playoff race.
16. Nashville Predators (+2) 11-10-2, (1-1-1): Shea Weber leads all defensemen in goals and points and leads his own team in points. Should the Preds make the playoff, he’s a strong Norris Trophy candidate.
15. Buffalo Sabres (+4) 11-9-3, (2-1-0): Is Buffalo back? Wins against BOS and PIT make a strong case.
14. Chicago Blackhawks (-5) 10-6-6, (0-2-1): The Blackhawks scored only four goals on their West Coast road trip, gaining one of six points.
13. Philadelphia Flyers (+3) 11-7-4, (2-1-1): The Flyers six game win streak came to an end, but they remain 7-1-2 in the past ten games.
12. New Jersey Devils (-2) 12-8-2, (1-1-0): The Devils had a five game win streak going until PIT finally snapped it. Clemmensen looks like the starter.
11. Washington Capitals 13-8-3, (2-2-0): Ovechkin has really stepped up the past few weeks and has won the Caps a few games. Just imagine it when Semin returns.
10. Anaheim Ducks (+2) 14-8-3, (3-0-0): The Ducks are a four game win streak, led by Perry and Getzlaf. But DET and CHI will look to end it.
9. Calgary Flames (+5) 14-9-1, (3-0-0): Cammalleri is starting to find his place in Calgary and is a solid player next to Iginla.
8. Minnesota Wild 14-7-1, (3-1-0): The Wild still can’t shake off the monkeys while playing DAL, but the rest of the week went well.
7. Montreal Canadiens 13-6-3, (2-1-1): If Ryan O’Byrne hadn’t put the puck in his own empty net, they might have another win.
6. Vancouver Canucks (-1) 14-8-2, (1-2-0): Curtis Sanford shined in his debut against Detroit, but the Canucks then were swept by Calgary in a home and home series.
5. New York Rangers (+1) 17-8-2, (3-1-0): The Rangers will face the toughest competition all year with next weeks games against PIT, MON, and CAL.
4. Detroit Red Wings 15-4-4, (1-2-1): The Red Wings are only 2-3-3 against teams currently in the top seven in points in the league.
3. Pittsburgh Penguins 14-6-3, (2-1-0): Crosby and Malkin are running one-two in the points race.
2. Boston Bruins 16-4-4, (2-1-0): Whether it’s Tim Thomas (9-3-3) or Manny Fernandez (7-1-1) in net, the Bs don’t seem to lose.
1. San Jose Sharks 20-3-1, (3-0-0): The Sharks have the fourth best defense, but it also is the highest scoring defense in the league.
