Never fear, the Wrap-Around will periodically update you on the offseason shenanigans around the NHL.
Rangers big spenders. The Rangers certainly want to push for the Cup, signing two of the biggest available free agents out there. Former Sabre Chris Drury, and former Devil Scott Gomez (pictured, courtesy Yahoo) both signed with the Rangers, the total value of their contracts combined are over $85 million dollars.
Smyth finds new home in Colorado, and the Islanders lose a few others. After being traded to the Islanders for a half year rental, Ryan Smyth signed a 5 year deal to go to the Avalanche. On top of that, the Islanders lost Jason Blake to Toronto and Viktor Kozlov to the Capitals.
Flyers starting rebuilding with Briere. After the worst record in hockey, the Flyers signed Buffalo star Daniel Briere to an 8 year deal for a total of $52 million dollars.
Gutting of Predators continues. After trading goalie Tomas Vokoun to the Panthers, and trading Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell to Philly, Paul Kariya signed with the St. Louis Blues.
Wild trade goalie. Due to the success of Niklas Backstrom, the Wild traded goalie Manny Fernandez to the Bruins for Petr Klaus and a draft pick.
Oilers/Flyers make trade. The Oilers traded away Jason Smith and Joffrey Lupul to Philly and in return got Joni Pitkanen and Geoff Sanderson.
