NHL Penguins and Capitals

Ovie vs Sid [NHL Live Thread]

Normally I'm the one writing about the "Battle of Alberta" but when the Capitals and the Penguins meet, it's always a game worth watching.  After all, both Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin have been promient in the news lately, and not for scoring goals.

The two have met 25 times in the five seasons they have played, and although the Penguins hold the win record overall, the Capitals have won the first two meetings this year.  The Olympics interrupted the season and Crosby and the Canadians blew past Ovechkin and the Russians enroute to a Gold Medal.  That may just be the shift the Penguins need to get past the Caps for the first time this year.   Ovechkin has scored five times in the two matchups, while Crosby has been limited to just two goals.

The game is being broadcast on the NHL Network, but of course, isn't the only game on tonight.  A couple of the other key matchups include the two New York teams, the Islanders and the Rangers, and the west coast matchup of the Anaheim Ducks and the Vancouver Canucks.  The full schedule tonight is:

7:00 pm ET
New York Islander at New York Rangers
Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals

7:30 pm ET
Montreal Canadiens at Buffalo Sabres
St. Louis Blues at Detroit Red Wings

9:00 pm ET
Los Angeles Kings @ Colorado Avalanche

10:00 pm ET
Anaheim Ducks @ Vancouver Canucks

So feel free to chat it up, trash talk, cheer, jeer, and before the games get started, make your bets against friend or foe on Playbook!

YAY!!! I strongly dislike the Canadiens

Buffalo scores 2 goals in the last 2 minutes of the game and then wins 3-2 in a shootout over the Canadiens

And the Canucks score first against the Ducks - Ehrhoff gets the goal, with assists from both Sedins

damn, take a break, go have dinner and it all "goes to hell in a hand basket" as my granma used to say  I really needed the Blues to win tonight.  And I was really hoping for the Kings - hopefully they can come back?

Caps win in a shootout on a Mike Kuble goal

Red Wings win 4-2, no magic run this year to the playoffs for the Blues.  JD and company need a major renovation of the Blues roster or they will waste the prime careers of guys like TJ Oshie and Eric Johnson

Wow----the Kings have scored 3 in the first----------------------Too bad two of those goals were for the AVs.

WOW I am soooooo impressed with the Blues - I wouldn't accept any Playbook  bets against the Wings, but now I'm thinking that was pretty stupid on my part

You should've took the Wings.  Detroit gets a couple of fluke bounces and capitalize to take a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Damn, I  don't get this game and was hoping for updates
I understand it's still 0-0 and Fleury is playing awesome!

It's make or break for the Blues tonight in Detroit.  Win, and the slight hope of making a run for a playoff spot is still a slight possiblity.  Lose, and the Note will need a miracle in there last 9 games to get into the Stanley Cup playoffs
