The NHL playoffs -- more specifically, the Western Conference Playoffs -- kick off today. If you missed our previews of the Western Conference (and Eastern Conference) first-round series, be sure to check them out. If you've already read them, then feel free to move onto the next paragraph, where we get to the games.

Mar 5, 2013; Chicago, IL, USA; Minnesota Wild center Mikko Koivu (9) faces off against Chicago Blackhawks center Andrew Shaw (65) during the third period at the United Center. The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Minnesota Wild 5-3. The Blackhawks set an NHL record for scoring at least one point in 23 consecutive games to open a season. Mandatory Credit: Rob Grabowski-USA TODAY SportsMaking picks today is Kramer. Let's see how he does.

No. 1 Chicago Blackhawks vs. No. 8 Minnesota Wild (Series tied at 0)
8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network
FanIQ Sports Bar
The NHL's best team is the first on the ice in the first game of the playoffs, so we will soon see if there is a letdown in the Blackhawks. My guess is no. Here is Kramer's take:
"The Wild may steal one of these games to avoid a sweep, but that will be in Minnesota. Hawks win this one handedly tonight."

No. 4 St. Louis Blues vs. No. 5 Los Angeles Kings (Series tied at 0)
8 p.m. ET, CNBC
FanIQ Sports Bar
This promises to be one of the most compelling opening-round series. There is no favorite right now -- the winner of game one will be just that. Here is Kramer's take:
"I said the Kings take game one of this series. They won't sweep it, but they just have the Blues' number."

No. 2 Anaheim Ducks vs. No. 7 Detroit Red Wings (Series tied at 0)
10:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network
FanIQ Sports Bar
The Red Wings are hot at the right time. Does that spell trouble for the favored Ducks? Only time will tell. Here is Kramer's take (no bias here...):
"I want the Ducks to win and will not pick Detroit, that is all!"

Who do you think will win tonight? Which games will you be watching? Q it up!

Fine.  Then I suggest it would have been better served as a stand alone comment rather than a reply to one that did not warrant what was said.

I'll take that into consideration next time.

The extra info was not relevant.  I was pointing out the contrast that last years playoff hero was an opening game goat this year.  The Kings lost game one because of Quick's flub.

It was relevant to me which is why I typed it.

I don't think I typed that it did. He has a problem playing the puck, it led to the shortie...........WE ALL KNOW this.

I just added some extra info...........the fact that it doesn't go to OT without Quick being Quick in regulation.

Sorry...  His earlier performance doesn't offset the mistake.  He's the reason the Kings lost.  Plain and simple.  And being the game 1 goat doesn't mean he will make such monumental errors throughout the post season...

Quick was the only reason the Kings were even in this game.  This would have been a tough loss to swallow for the Blues given how well they played in game 1

As said before...  Earlier performance doesn't negate the costly screw up.

Hmmmm....no. Like Scott stated Quick was the only reason this game went into OT.

Quick made a similar mistake last year vs. the Devils in GAme 5. He'll bounce back. He's not the best at handling the puck. And hopefully, next game the rest of the Kings show up.

There is no one to root for in the Ducks-Wings series.  Don't like either team.   angry

Wow...  Quick, last year's playoff hero is this year's game one goat...

And the first night brings us two overtime games...  Love playoff hockey!

And again, even though I picked the Hawks to win, I'm rooting for Minnesota to upset them.  But that's difficult because they have the lamest team nickname in all the NHL....

Dang it....  Took me too darn long to find CNBC.  The one and only time of year that channel ever glows on the TV.  But finally found it.  I know I predicted the Kings to win, but I'm rooting for the Blues.
