There's nothing quite as intense as the NHL Playoffs, as far as I'm concerned. Even non-fans of the sport are drawn into the hype this time of year. There's just something about that glistening Cup - literally personified by fans, players, and media alike - that captivates us. It carries with it the most amazing history and crazy stories that we hear about during game broadcasts every year. I'm fortunate enough to say that my team was added to the bottom ring last season...and I can only hope they pull the first back-to-back since '98 and we have a few consecutive repeats on there.
But a very small part of me also has high hopes for some of the other teams who haven't even smelled the cup in several years, if ever. While I don't necessarily think that half of the entire league should make the playoffs, each of those teams does work very hard to get there - even the 7th and 8th seeds.
