NHL Playoffs Day One [Live Thread]

2010 NHL Playoffs Begin!

Day one of the first round of the 2010 NHL Playoffs gets underway today, and the first game features last year's Stanley Cup winners, the Pittsburgh Penguins taking on the Ottawa Senators.  The game gets underway on Versus HD and CBC HD at 7:00 pm ET, and should, by all accounts, be a decent matchup.  The teams are 2-2 against each other in the season and home ice doesn't appear to be an advantage.  Each team won one on the road and one at home.

That game is followed a half hour later by the second game, featuring the Philadelphia Flyers tackle the New Jersey Devils.  And being the Flyers, tackle is exactly what the game may be.  As long as I can remember the Flyers have been brawlers.  Although the Devils, with goalie Martin Brodeur, have been strong this year, they haven't had much success against the Flyers.  This may change, being the playoffs, but look for the Devils to struggle against the Flyers.

The West Coast games get underway later on, with Detroit meeting up with the surprise of the season, Phoenix Coyotes.  The Coyotes came out of the gate, game one, determined to show the world that they belong in the NHL and prove that they did.  The Detroit Red Wings are, well, the Red Wings, but the Coyotes won't be a pushover.

The final matchup is the San Jose Sharks meeting the Colorado Avalanche.  The Sharks are always strong in the regular season, yet struggle in the off season.  The Avalanche are another surprise team in the playoffs (well except to their fans) and predicting a result in that series is difficult.

It all gets underway today and the Q is your place to chat it up.  Don't forget Playbook, and challenge your friends for Qbucks or cash, or just bragging rights!

Sorry, don't want to bomb this thread but does anyone know what is going on with the Q? I hit the main page today and there is no way to access the "Best of" articles from there. I went to my profile and I now no longer have links to post anything there. I can't find any way to get to the team pages...

The only way I could get to the "Best Of" page was to go to my profile and click on one of the articles in my wall where I had posted before, and then click on the "Best Of" link. But how would a user get to the articles and hotlinks without going that route?

This re-design is very difficult to navigate, IMO.

There are several polls in the Locker Room regarding this, but the quick answer is, you can't.  The way you have found it is the only way, other than bookmarking it in your browser, to get to the BoW.  There are no longer links to the BoW or Friends Feed or other things, but try this thread for answers/links.

Personally, I hope the Sharks bore you by being on the happy side of a 6-0 shutout.

Sadly it wasn't to be.  Although I am having a really hard time with this series, cuz I like both the Av's and the Sharks.

Wow...  Not a good start for the Pens.  Good thing for them it's a best of 7.  Hope my Sharkies fare better than that.

The Pens need to start getting more shots on goal, because from what I've seen, Elliott is very shaky.  For that matter, Fleury is also.

Yep, being outshot 11-4 isn't "getting a lot of shots".  If they could get the shots, I bet they could score, no problem, neither goalie looks outstanding tonight

Well that, of course, is a matter of opinion.  This Pittsburgh - Ottawa game is everything I thought it would be so far.
