Saturday Usually Means Lots of Hockey and This Week Is No Different, 11 Games! [NHL Live Thread]
Today I'm joined by my co-hostesses with the mostesses, Debi (JrCanuckFan) who may be popping in, and Jess. I'm Bryan, or BK, your thorn between two roses. We're here to get you ready for 11 exciting games today. We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there, so hop on board the Q train as we embark on an 11-city tour across the NHL...ALL ABOARD!
We begin this Saturday in the desert southwest with an afternoon matinee between the Oilers and the Coyotes.
Jess: The Coyotes may be doing well, but their games have been frustrating their fans. I think that will happen again today, with a close game. Yotes win anyway.
BK: The Oilers are once again bringing up the rear in the Western Conference. The Coyotes are off to a pretty good start with 14 points already. The Oilers will try their best I'm sure, but it won't be enough. Phoenix wins it.
Edmonton Oilers @ Phoenix Coyotes - 3:00 PM ET - SportsNet West, FSN Arizona
We have time for a quick dinner break before we hightail it back east for a boatload of 7:00 puck drops, the first being the Bruins and Devils in Beantown.
Jess: The Bruins keep their streak alive easily tonight.
BK: The Devils only have one win and still have more points than the Rangers and Flyers, that's disturbing. The Bruins won't need any last second heroics in this one though, they'll handle the Devils on home ice tonight.
New Jersey Devils @ Boston Bruins - 7:00 PM ET - MSG+2, NESN
Next it's off to the Air Canada Center for what should be a great battle between the Pens and the Leafs.
Jess: I was shocked by the Penguins loss last night. Both teams are good - this should be a fun game to watch. Uhm. I'll pick the Penguins simply because I can't decide, and when that happens I like to provide moral support for the teams of my co-hosts.
BK: Both teams lost last night and had to travel across the border to Toronto for this game. Both have 14 points and both are pretty evenly matched. You know I'm never going to pick against my Pens, but this game will go down to the bitter end. For those of you in Canada, this is one of 3 CBC Hockey Night in Canada regional games along with Sharks/Habs, and Jets/Stars!
Pittsburgh Penguins @ Toronto Maple Leafs - 7:00 PM ET - CBC, ROOT Pittsburgh
Next we're headed to Bell Centre where the Sharks travel to battle the Habs.
Jess: Another good game! Habs.
BK: The Sharks lost a shocker in Boston two night ago, this will be another exciting game. I am torn on this one, but I think San Jose bounces back and gets the road victory here, but it won't be easy.
San Jose Sharks @ Montreal Canadiens - 7:00 PM ET - CBC, RDS, CSN California
Next it's off to The Joe where the Rangers finally finish their opening road trip against the Wings.
Jess: Man, what is going on with the Rangers? I realize they may be tired, but they haven't been good from the beginning. Can't score, can't defend...is Lundqvist back yet? Wasn't he out with an injury? I don't know, as much as I would love to see them pull one off, especially against the Red Wings, I don't think it's going to happen tonight.
BK: The Rangers need that opening homestand badly, they're exhausted. However, I'm calling the upset tonight and picking them to shock the Wings. This one is also on NHL Network in the US for your viewing pleasure!
New York Rangers @ Detroit Red Wings - 7:00 PM ET - NHL Network (US), MSG, FSN Detroit
Next it's off to St. Pete in sunny Florida where the Bolts host the Sabres.
BK: Oh Sabres...you won't be shut out tonight but you also won't come close to winning. Tampa has this one.
Buffalo Sabres @ Tampa Bay Lightning - 7:00 PM ET - MSG Buffalo, SUN
Next we're headed right back up north to Nassau where the Isles host the Flyers.
Jess: Gross. Way too much orange on the ice at once (girlie post). Two teams that aren't fantastic this year so far, so this should be a battle...even if not such a pretty one. Islanders I suppose.
BK: The Isles pulled off a huge road win last night in Pittsburgh against my Pens. I hate both teams, and even though the Flyers were off last night, I don't think they have the ability to win 2 in a row with that team, whereas the Isles do. You also know I will never pick Philly even if my life depended on it, Isles win.
Philadelphia Flyers @ New York Islanders - 7:00 PM ET - CSN Philadelphia, MSG+
Next we're off to Big D where the Stars play host to the Jets.
Jess: Do I need to say it?
Winnipeg Jets @ Dallas Stars - 7:00 PM ET - CBC, TXA21
We head to the UC next where the Hawks host the Wild.
Jess: Blackhawks win
BK: The Hawks won't give up 6 goals again, but they might not score 5 either. That said, I still think they take the win here over the visiting Wild tonight.
Minnesota Wild @ Chicago Blackhawks - 8:00 PM ET - FSN North, WGN
Our next game is in Music City where the Preds host the Blues.
Jess: Something about this matchup is always fun. The Blues have lost a couple in a row...I think they break that streak tonight.
BK: Both teams are off to impressive starts. I'm giving the Preds the home ice advantage for my sis tonight.
St. Louis Blues @ Nashville Predators - 8:00 PM ET - FSN Midwest
Our night cap features Debi's Flames as they host the Caps.
Jess: Flames snap that winning streak the Caps are on right now for our lovely co-hostess.
BK: The Saddledome was repaired and the home team looks improved right along with it. Flames win this one at home over the visiting Caps. This one is also the 2nd leg of the Hockey Night in Canada doubleheader!
Washington Capitals @ Calgary Flames - 10:00 PM ET - CBC, CSN Washington
As always, this is your place to come to talk (or bitch) about the game(s) you're watching this afternoon and into the night. Let's get this party started on a Saturday night!
