NHL Saturday Playoffs Round One Live Thread

It Really IS Playoff Hockey, Isn't it? [NHL Playoffs Late Games Live Thread]

Only a couple of games into Round One of the Playoffs and one thing is for certain, this IS playoff hockey.  Two games lst night ended in OT, while the third ended in a Shutout for Robert Luongo.  And Luongo didn't let the publicity of "Snowgate" get to him.  He said it didn't bother him as much as it seemed to bother his teammates and coaching staff.

Today, the Rangers take on the Caps in an early game, but later games include Detroit and the Columbus Blue Jackets,.  The Wings have the one game lead and host the Blue Jackets in Joe Louis Arena, a disadvantage to the Blue Jackets, or any team playing there.  Surprisingly, two of the goals scored in game 1 were scored by the defence.  Tonight we can look for the Wings to again adjust to the Blue Jackets play, and again be dominant.

Long time rivals, Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins meet again tonight.  Boston leads that series by one game, not surprising really, but the Bruins need to focus and not let the actions at the end of game one deter them from their goal - to win again, and put the past history where it belongs, in the past.  Unfortunately, as of now, they will have to do it without Matt Hunwick, but not because of his eye gouge.  He showed up for the morning team meeting and shortly afterwards complained of pain and was ambulanced to the hospital.

Calgary and Chicago meet tonight as well, with Chicago taking the early lead in the series.  This series seems to be the battle of the goalies, with Nikolai Khabibulan in goal for  Chi-town and Mika Kiprusoff (say both those names five times fast) in goal for the Flames. Jerome Iginla wasn't much of a factor in Game one, but look for him to come out tonight like the Iginla we expect to see in a game.  Everyone can have an off night.

One thing is for certain, the intensity of play has stepped up and the injuries show it.

So chat it up here if you wish, or on the game pages, and don't forget to make your picks (like I did).

Schedule tonight is:

6:00 pm ET
Columbus Blue Jackets @ Detroit Red Wings

8:00 pm ET
Montreal Canadiens @ Boston Bruins
Calgary Flames @ Chicago Blackhawks

Red Wings will win because that's what we do this time of year . All the regular season pretenders can step aside now for the champs.

Hockey fans..is your team ready for the run to the Stanley Cup..!! The Red Wings are deep in talent, and experience. They are holding the Silver Challis, gripping it tightly, and won't give it up without a fight.
This Red Wing team is no pushover. they will knock you on your ass, and then rip the puck past you into the net. The #1 run franchise in the NHL...does your team have the will, the resolve, to win the Cup.? Ya gotta love the Stanley Cup Playoffs.!!

Line changes on the Flames tonight. Iginla moving down to line number 2, paired with Glencross again.
AND will the Celtics loss mojo stay behind for the Bruins?
