Playoffs continue but could end for two teams tonight

Blog Photo - NHL Sunday Playoffs [Live Thread]I'm not sure who said it first, but this year the playoffs have not failed to deliver excitement.  Other than the Montreal Canadiens dispatching the Tampa Bay Lightning in four straight, every other series has had at least one of "that game you just cannot turn off".

Today we continue in the spirit of the playoffs, first, with an early game, the only one that cannot decide a series.  The Philadelphia Flyers and the New Yord Rangers are tied at 2 games apiece, even though the Rangers looked poised to dominate the series.  Philly has come out fighting, however, and we can expect more of the same today.  Keep your eyes on Hal Gill.  At 39 he is in the best mood, loving the ice time he gets and thriving in the playoff atmosphere.  For the Rangers, Rick Nash may be holding back a little, anticipating being around for the second round, but he and his team needs to win this series first.  If he steps up the way he can, he could be the player to watch.

The second game, airing several hours later, features the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues.  The Blues looked like they were going to sweep the series having taken a 2-0 lead right out of the gate.  However, the Blackhawks have come back, and now lead the series 3-2.  Our resident Kings' expert, kteacher, posted this gem a couple of days ago.

2013 Round 1 Blues vs. Kings (defending Stanley Cup champions)
Game 1: Alex Steen scored game-winning goal in OT.
Game 2: Barret Jackman scored game-winning goal.
Game 3: Blues outshot Kings by nine, get shut out.
Game 4. Blues blew 3-2 lead late in third period, lost 4-3.
Game 5: Alex Pietrangelo scored game-tying goal (his first of the playoffs, assisted by Jaden Schwartz), Blues lost 3-2 in OT.
Game 6: Blues lost 2-1, eliminated from playoffs.

2014 Round 1 Blues vs. Blackhawks (defending Stanley Cup champions)
Game 1: Steen scored game-winning goal in OT.
Game 2: Jackman scored game-winning goal.
Game 3: Blues outshot Blackhawks by nine, get shut out.
Game 4: Blues blew 3-2 lead late in third period, lost 4-3.
Game 5: Pietrangelo scored game-tying goal (his first of the playoffs, assisted by Schwartz), Blues lost 3-2 in OT.
Game 6: ???

I personally hope the Blues break that and win.  Not because I dislike the Blackhawks, because I don't.  I just would love to see the Blues in the second round this year.

And finally, the Ducks continue to battle the Dallas Stars.  I don't know why this Dallas team is so difficult for the Ducks to get past.  It annoys me.  A good friend of mine is Dallas fan, but our own Jess is, of course, the Queen of the Duck's fans.  I hope Anaheim can close out the series tonight.

Here's the schedule:

12:00 pm ET
Philadelphia Flyers at New York Rangers  (NBC, TSN, RDS)

3:00 pm ET
St. Louis Blues at Chicago Blackhawks  (NBC, CBC, RDS)

8:00 pm ET
Anaheim Ducks at Dallas Stars  (NBCSN, TSN2, RDS2, PRIME, FS-SW)

Well, the only consolation I can offer is that the Calgary Flames haven't made it to the playoffs in forever, so your chances are infinitely better than mine :(

So it went to OT, but at 17:13 of the first OT period, the Anaheim Ducks knock out the Dallas Stars, courtesy of Bonino!!!!!

Hawks were just a better, well balanced scoring team.  When they needed their super stars most, they stepped up and delivered.  The Hawks played like they've been their before.  The Blues continue to play like pretenders that just don't have enough to crash the party
