The other day I said I thought people might be losing interest in hockey, being the second round and all.
I’m getting tired of saying this, but it seems, again, I was wrong.
Last night we saw some great hockey. Malkin finally got on the board, after being scoreless and Pittsburgh pulled out the win in OT, putting them back into contention. The Hurricanes moved ahead of Boston 2-1 in a closely fought battle that also went to overtime.
Tonight, we see the Blackhawks and the Canucks in action again in Chicago, starting at 8pm. The Canucks will again be without Sami Salo, again, and again, Ossi Vaananen (say that three times fast) will take his place in the lineup. The Blackhawks, trailing for the first time in the playoffs, they need to figure out how to get past the Canucks’ defence in order to even up the series.
And out on the west coast, the defending Cup Champions will need to figure out how to get by Jonas Hiller. Although their shots on goal are impressive, 145-93, more of those shots need to go in the net for it to count.
Both teams were unhappy with the officiating in Tuesday night’s game, the Ducks because of the uncalled elbow by Holmstom to Wisniewski, and the Wings because of the early whistle, robbing them of the goal that would have tied the game. Wisniewski was hospitalized after the puck hit to the chest and the followup elbow, and has since been released, but will not play this evening, and as of the time of this writing, no replacement had been named.
Both games are being broadcast on VERSUS and in Canada, CBC will broadcast the early game while TSN covers the later. You know the drill about the picks, so chat it up here on in the pages, and enjoy the games.
