Boring Day in Sports You Say? Not So Says the NHL with 10 Games Tonight! [NHL Live Thread]

11/19/13 in NHL   |   kramer   |   11004 respect

Hello out there in FanIQ Land, and welcome to a ho-hum Tuesday night in the middle of November.  Baseball is over, the NFL doesn't do Tuesday games, and the NBA has just a handful of games.  We've got the cure though with 20 teams on the ice.  This is the Q's NHL Pregame Show.  I'm Bryan (or BK), your thorn between two roses.  Tonight I'm joined by my one of my two co-hostesses, Jess.  We're here to provide some analysis and a pick for each game.  From Hockey Central in Toronto to the Big Apple to SoCal, IIIIIT'S A HOCKEY NIGHT in North America!  You know what to do, hop on the Q Train as we get set for a 10-city tour...ALL ABOARD!
Blog Photo - NHL Tuesday Night Live ThreadOur first stop this evening is in Buffalo where the Sabres host the Blues.
Jess: I think the Blues are too strong a team to lose to Buffalo right now.
BK: The Sabres finally have over 10 points!  They won't be able to handle St. Louis though, Blues win this one fairly easily.
St. Louis Blues @ Buffalo Sabres: 7:00 PM ET - FSN Midwest, MSG Buffalo, Bell TV

Next we're headed north of the border into Toronto where the Leafs host the Islanders.
Jess: Gah...uhmm Islanders.
BK: Toronto is keeping that impressive start going, currently part of a huge gaggle of teams tied for 4th in the East.  The Isles have faltered lately, and I think the home team pulls this one out.
New York Islanders @ Toronto Maple Leafs: 7:00 PM ET - MSG+, SportsNet Ontario

We head back into the states next for another duel National Anthem game between the Sens and Flyers.
Jess: I have to go with the Flyers.
BK: Even with the recent hot streak the Flyers are still dead last in the Metropolitan division.  You also know I will never pick Philadelphia if my life depended on it, Sens win.
Ottawa Senators @ Philadelphia Flyers: 7:00 PM ET - SportsNet East, TVA, CSN Philadelphia

Next we head to le Bell Centre where the Habs host the red-hot Wild.
Jess: Wild may be hot, but I think the Habs upset them tonight in a close one..maybe even overtime.
BK: The Wild are en fuego right now, 8-1-1 in their last 10.  The Habs are 4-4-2 in that stretch.  It's always tough to play in Montreal when the Habs are anywhere close to being good though.  However, les Habitants vont perdre ce soir.  Wild get a very impressive road win and continue their hot streak.
Minnesota Wild @ Montreal Canadiens: 7:30 PM ET - RDS, FSN North

Back into the US we go for our next stop, as the Preds travel to face the Red Wings.
Jess: I don't think Babcock will allow Detroit to play this way for long, but it seems like I always pick against the Predators. Preds are a good team, and Detroit's weird streak continues.
BK: What...the...hell?!  Detroit is on a 5-game overtime losing streak.  Just for s***s and giggles, and for my sis, Preds win and keep this weird streak going for Detroit just as Jess said.
Nashville Predators @ Detroit Red Wings: 7:30 PM ET - FSN Tennessee, FSN Detroit+

Next it's off to MSG where the Rangers host the Bruins in a classic rivalry renewed.

Jess: I can't go against the Rangers, no matter how much my head wants to.
BK: I think the Rangers pull off a nice home win over the Bruins, they are playing very well right now.  This game is also on NBC Sports for your viewing pleasure (except in the Boston and NYC areas)
Boston Bruins @ New York Rangers: 7:30 PM ET - TSN, NBC Sports Network, NESN, MSG 2

From there we're off to the Mile High City for a clash of the Titans, it's the Blackhawks and the Avs.
Jess: Gotta go with the Avs to pull out of their slump tonight.
BK: This is easily the game of the night!  The Avs have stumbled, but we know how they give the Hawks fits.  Colorado wins this one, but it will be a dogfight to the bitter end.
Chicago Blackhawks @ Colorado Avalanche: 9:00 PM ET - CSN Chicago, Altitude

We then head into Edmonton where the Oilers will host Columbus.
Jess: Ick. Uhm...eenie-meenie-miney-Columbus
BK: The Eric says "woof."  Columbus wins.
Columbus Blue Jackets @ Edmonton Oilers: 9:30 PM ET - FSN Ohio, SportsNet West

Staying in Canada, we head to Vancouver where the Canucks will host the Panthers.
Jess: I just want to see Torts have another meltdown, so I'm going with the Panthers.
BK: As funny as it is to see John Tortorella blow up, I don't think they'll lose to Florida.  Canucks win this one and it could turn ugly fast for the Panthers.
Florida Panthers @ Vancouver Canucks: 10:00 PM ET - FSN Florida, SportsNet Pacific

Our night cap takes us into L.A. where the Kings will host the Eastern Conference-Leading Stamkos-less Lightning.
Blog Photo - NHL Tuesday Night Live ThreadJess: How are the Lightning doing so well? They've got to be one of the more surprising teams this year (to me, anyway). I'm still going with the Kings.
BK: They had a really decent team, but the Stamkos injury is going to really hamper them in the next few months.  I'm also taking the Kings for this one.
Tampa Bay Lightning @ Los Angeles Kings: 10:30 PM ET - SUN, FSN West

Jess: Since we didn't have many games monday, we had no thread, and therefore no video. So, we bring to you tonight the best hits of last week, courtesy of NHL.com

BK: Thanks Jess!  As always, this is your place to come to talk (or bitch) about the game(s) you're watching tonight...let's get this party started!

OH good haha! I couldn't remember if you'd already put your answer in there and I copied you on accident, forcing you to alter yours. I hoped that didn't happen, but you never know

(And did I inadvertently steal your "weird streak" thing re: Preds and Detroit and make it sound like you were copying me? So not my intent if that happened)

How is that NOT a goal for Ottawa?  The puck was inside the net, way over the line.  It wasn't even close!  Of course now the Sens find a way to f--- it up and give up a goal anyway to Philly who retakes the lead.

The Rangers look very strong early on, but they should have a goal by now.
