Who’s one step closer to hoisting Lord Stanley? The Wrap-Around is your daily update for last nights’ NHL Playoff action.
Red Wings Roll To Game 1 Win.
Marty Turco had never been a winner at Joe Louis Arena in his NHL career. He had a 0-7-2 record in his career coming into the day, and the record would worsen. Turco did have multiple fantastic saves, but 4 shots still got in out of 31 His team didn't help his cause, as three of the four goals were on powerplay. Dallas only had 21 shots, and Chris Osgood had a very solid game in net. Detroit dominated shots in the first period, and then they were very even in the second and third periods. The Red Wings also dominated the faceoffs.
Detroit started it off with a powerplay goal by defenseman Brian Rafalski. Later in the period, they would get another powerplay goal, this one off of a deflection by Johan Franzen. (His 12th goal of the playoffs) Tomas Holmstrom would score the third powerplay goal in the second period to make it 3-0. Valtteri Filppula would score later in the period on a great pass to set up a breakaway. Brenden Morrow would score late in the second, but that would be the final goal of the game, as Detroit would win 4-1.
With that, Detroit takes a 1-0 series lead, with game two in Detroit on Saturday at 7 PM.
