The Penguins would score quickly to start the game. Just under 3 minutes into the game, Pittsburgh got a powerplay opportunity, and Marian Hossa capitalized on it with a goal to give the Pens a 1-0 lead. The Red Wings would tie it 7 minutes into the game on a powerplay goal of their own. Nicklas Lidstrom ripped a shot from the blue line which went in clean to tie the game at 1. The game would remain tied through the rest of the 1st. Detroit had 14 shots while the Penguins had 9.
The second period was even in shots, Detroit had 7 while Pittsburgh had 8. It was also dead even in goals, as neither team scored. Only two penalties in the period, but both teams had a few good chances.
The Red Wings would take the lead after a quick 3rd period goal. Jiri Hudler scored for on a backhand goal about two and a half minutes through the 3rd to give Detroit the lead. Pittsburgh had a few more chances late, including a 5-on-3 powerplay and a close chance at the very end of the game, but they could not score again. The Red Wings won 2-1.
Detroit now leads the series 3-1, and can end it in game 5 in Detroit. That game is Monday, 8 PM ET on NBC/CBC.
