Who’s one step closer to hoisting Lord Stanley? The Wrap-Around is your daily update for last nights’ NHL Playoff action.
Penguins Complete Sweep Of Senators.
Well we know we won't have a repeat Eastern Conference champion, as Ottawa is finished. Pittsburgh had 34 shots to Ottawa's 22. No goals were scored until the 2nd period, when Evgeni Malkin got a powerplay goal for the Pens. Cory Stillman would tie it for Ottawa, but Jarkko Ruutu would make a great move to put the Penguins back up 2-1 after the 2nd. They scored one more goal, Crosby scored with 8 seconds left in the game to put the nail in the coffin. Pittsburgh advances to the second round, and they will play the second lowest remaining seed. (Likely they'll play the Rangers)
Rangers Beat Devils 5-3; Are One Game From Series Victory.
This game was fairly close most of the way. New Jersey was outshot 39-31 by the Rangers in this one. The only goal in the first was scored by Scott Gomez on a powerplay. Patrick Elias would tie it quickly in the 2nd, and he would score again later in the period. But Martin Straka and Chris Drury each scored goals to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead after two. Mike Mottau tied it up at the 4:37 mark, but Marc Staal would score the game winner for the Rangers with about 3 minutes left. Gomez scored an empty netter late to seal it. The Rangers lead the series 3-1 and can end it in Game 5 in New Jersey on Friday.
Predators Even Series With 3-2 Win.
The home team continues to win every game in this series. The Predators were outshot 41-27, but goalie Dan Ellis had a great game. Nashville got off to a fast start, scoring two goals within a minute of each other in the first. (Hamhuis, Weber) They would end the 1st with a 2-0 lead. Pavel Datsyuk would give Detroit a powerplay goal in the second, but 9 seconds later Greg de Vries matched for Nashville (Hasek would get pulled for Chris Osgood). Datysuk would score again in the 3rd, but it would not be enough as the Predators won the game, The series is now tied 2-2, with game 5 on Friday in Detroit.
