Who’s one step closer to hoisting Lord Stanley? The Wrap-Around is your daily update for last nights’ NHL Playoff action.
Red Wings Own Theodore Again En Route To 5-1 Win.
As they did in game 1, the Red Wings controlled the game. They had 40 shots to the Avalanche's 20. Jose Theodore gave up 4 goals on 20 shots, causing him to be pulled for the second straight game, where Peter Budaj came in and was solid. (You'd gotta believe Budaj will start game 3) Johan Franzen scored in the first on a powerplay to give them a 1-0 lead. Franzen would score again in the second period on another powerplay, followed by a Valtteri Filppula and Henrik Zetterberg each scoring a goal. Colorado would score in the third, but Franzen would score another goal for a hatrick to give the Red Wings a 5-1 win. Detroit leads the series 2-0, with game three on Tuesday night.
Flyers Even Series With 4-2 Victory.
Despite the fact that Montreal had 36 shots to the Flyers 23 shots. Martin Biron played a great game in net, making 34 of 36 saves including a couple gems. R.J. Umberger scored the first goal of the game for the Flyers. Jeff Carter would score on a powerplay to give them an early 2-0 lead. Saku Koivu would get a powerplay goal to keep Montreal in the game after one. Daniel Briere scored in the second giving the Flyers a 3-1 lead. Andrei Markov would get it close again by scoring in the beginning of the 3rd, but R.J. Umberger's goal with under 3 minutes remaining sealed the victory for the Flyers. That evens the series at 1-1 with game three on Monday.
