Who'd have guessed that the team with the worst record last year would be one game away from the conference finals a year later. As in seemingly every game of this series, Montreal dominated shots (38-26), and once again, it didn't result in a win. Martin Biron conitnued to play great, getting him in a trade from Buffalo last year definitely was a great move. R.J. Umberger scored the games' first goal in the second period on a powerplay. Scott Hartnell's goal in the third gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead. Montreal would score two quickly back-to-back to tie it; Tomas Plekanec scored the first, and Saku Koivu scored the second. Montreal's fatal error would be an interference penalty by Steve Begin. A minute later, Daniel Briere (Another good take from Buffalo) scored a goal which would win them the game. Umberger would score an empty netter with 2 seconds left. The Flyers now have the #1 seed Canadiens by the throat, up 3-1. They can end it in game 5 back in Montreal on Saturday.
Well, one down, three more to go for the Sharks. The Sharks had 24 shots to the Stars 18, but the key stat was Dallas' 12 penalty minutes to the Sharks 6. The first goal was scored by Jere Lehtinen unassisted in the 2nd period. Patrick Marleau tied it up a few minutes later on an unassisted shorthanded goal. In the 3rd, Mike Modano got a penalty for shooting the puck over the glass. On that powerplay, Milan Michalek scored and the Sharks would hold on for a 2-1 lead. Game 5 is back in San Jose on Friday, but Dallas still leads the series 3-1.
