Who’s one step closer to hoisting Lord Stanley? The Wrap-Around is your daily update for last nights’ NHL Playoff action.
Rangers Keep Series Alive With 3-0 Win
The Rangers don't appear to be going down without a fight. Shots were fairly close, as the Rangers had 34 to the Penguins 29. Henrik Lundqvist played to the best of his ability to get the shutout. Jaromir Jagr scored the games first goal in the second period. He got flattened right after he shot it, and stayed down for a bit, but got up and finished the game. Evgeni Malkin would have a chance to tie it on a penalty shot, but he would be denied. Brandon Dubinsky scored on a powerplay in the 3rd to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead, and Jagr ended it late with an empty netter. The Penguins still lead the series 3-1, and will play game 5 in Pittsburgh.
Red Wings Clinch Series With 8-2 Mauling
Detroit usually has about 40 shots, and score maybe 2 or 3 goals. This time, their 40 shots netted them 8 goals. Mikael Samuelsson scored first in the 1st period for Detroit. Tyler Arnason would score quickly on a powerplay to match. But the Wings would end the period with goals by Tomas Holmstrom and playoff goal leader Johan Franzen. Detroit went nuts in the 2nd period, with Henrik Zetterberg scoring two back-to-back. And following that, Franzen scored another two, one shorthanded and the other on a powerplay, giving him a hat trick and 11 goals for the postseason. Samuelsson would get his second goal in the 3rd, and Colorado would get a goal late. Detroit completes the sweep and advances to the Western Conference finals to play either Dallas or San Jose. You gotta believe the Red Wings are rooting for the Sharks to take that series to 7 games so they can get some extra rest.
