As we get closer and closer to the Stanley Cup finals, the Wrap-Around is here to recap last nights Conference final action.Ducks take series lead with 2-1 overtime road victory. Big win for the Ducks, as they now lead the series 3-2 and heading back home for game 6. Giguere was untouchable, and really the key reason for their victory. They were outshot 34-18 in regulation, but controlled OT 8-3.
No one scored in the first period, as the defenses were top notch. Then, Andreas Lilja (a guy certainly not known for scoring) put in the first goal of the game for Detroit, giving them the 1-0 lead. The Ducks would certainly wait a while for their first goal, in fact they waited until the last minute. But on a powerplay (6 on 4 with an empty net) Scott Neidermayer scored to eventually force the game into overtime.
Then in overtime, Lilja went from hero to goat. After being the Wings only goal scorer, a horrible giveaway in the Wings defensive zone allowed Teemu Selanne to take the puck and backhand it past Hasek, hitting the water bottle. Lilja missed the puck trying to pass, and Selanne made him regret it.
The Ducks now lead the series 3-2, and game 6 is back in Anaheim (Tuesday, 9 PM on Versus, try to find it)
Player of the Night: Jean-Sebastian Giguere, 36 saves on 37 shots.
Game 6 should be very interesting. Will the Ducks finish it out? Or can the Red Wings force game 7 back home?
