Flyers End Canadiens In 5 Games With 6-4 Win.
Only a year ago, the Philadelphia Flyers were 22-48-12, and the worst team in the league. A year later, and now they are 4 wins away from playing in the Finals. The 1 seed Canadiens played a very even game with Philly, with shots and faceoffs very close to even. Tomas Plekanec scored the first goal of the game to give Montreal a 1-0 lead. R.J. Umberger tied it up, but shortly thereafter Alexei Kovalev scored, giving Montreal a 2-1 lead after one. Christopher Higgins would score halfway through the 2nd, which gave the Canadiens a 3-1 lead.
But the Flyers would not lie down, as they would score 3 goals to finish the second period. The first by Mike Richards, the second by R.J. Umberger (his 9th) and the third by Scott Hartnell. Montreal would tie it quickly in the third on an Andrei Kostitsyn goal. But with 3:04 remaining, Scottie Upshall scored the game winning goal. Mike Knuble scored an empty netter to seal it.
With that, the Flyers advance on to the Eastern Conference finals, and it appears they will face the Pittsburgh Penguins, unless the New York Rangers win 3 straight to pull off the comeback.
