The Rockies have a chance to book their ticket for their first World Series if they can close out the Arizona Diamondbacks at home tonight.
More and more, the Rockies seem the team of destiny, whether that is the improbably run they have been on, winning the 1-game playoff on the phantom tag of home plate, sweeping out the Phillies, or finding every way possible to beat Arizona. Fate should have champagne chilling for the Rocks tonight.
Although, it may not be all that spectacular that they are winning as easily as they are. The Phils practically backed into the playoffs with the Mets collapse. The Diamondbacks were actually outscored in the regular season by their opponents. Maybe the Rockies were just seated at the right place at the table for this one.
Meanwhile, on Arizona's side there is a criticism of the pitching decision for tonight's game. Bob Melvin is going with Micah Owings instead of ace Brandon Webb on 3 days rest. Keep in mind the record of pitchers on 3 days rest in the playoffs is not stellar, and even with your ace in that spot, it is no guarantee of a Game 5. Webb would be ready to go in Game 5 should the D-backs do what seems to be impossible lately, and win tonight. That would lend itself towards a nice trip out of the rain and back to the desert.
I am going with destiny tonight and taking the Rockies; Fan IQ has my back on that pick.
