Nasri doing well to make an impact in the absence of Silva at Manchester City
Samir Nasri is finally finding his footing in the Manchester City squad. The French midfielder arrived at the Eastlands in 2011, but hasn’t been able to cement his spot in first-team until now. Injury to Manchester City star David Silva gave Nasri the opportunity to prove his mettle in the first-team.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini hesitantly introduced Nasri back into the first-team and soon found out that it had been one of his best decisions this season. Nasri has formed a formidable partnership with Yaya Toure in the heart of the midfield, Toure handles the center of the park and Nasri leads the attack.
Toure believes Nasri is a player with “unbelievable” talents and is having an “amazing” season in Manchester City colors. Nasri insists his new found form is a result of the trust and faith Pellegrini has shown in him. Nasri explained that Pellegrini had given him the license to lead the attack when he saw an opportunity, instead of being restricted to a deep midfield role.
Nasri also admitted that he was disappointed with his form from last season. The 25-year-old was under intense scrutiny from former manager Roberto Mancini for his lack of form and responsibility. Nasri believes he has redeemed himself as an asset to Manchester City and hopes he can continue in the season with his new found form.
Nasri will return to action at The Hawthorns Stadium on Wednesday to play against West Bromwich Albion. The France international has scored three goals in his last two outings, which includes a brace in the 3-0 victory at home over Swansea City. Toure admits Manchester City still misses Silva in the midfield, but Nasri has done well to make an impact in his absence.
“I think we have missed David Silva a bit as well, but Samir is unbelievable, an incredible player,” Toure said. “When you look at him playing before at Arsenal, he has this same freedom now. Pellegrini allows players like him to attack and enjoy this freedom and it’s fantastic for him and the club.
“When he signed for City, the first year was quite difficult for him. You have to understand tactically that first year was quite hard for him, because he is such an offensive player and when you tell players like that to defend, it affects them, it’s not easy. But this year he is doing everything, he’s been amazing.”
Toure further said that he had become a Nasri fan on and off the pitch. The Ivorian midfielder said that Nasri was a guy of great character who was always happy.
“He’s quiet, he’s calm and an interesting guy,” Toure added. “When you get close to him, you love him because he’s such a fantastic guy, always smiling. He’s a nice guy, I love him, and I always enjoy playing alongside him.”
