Blog Photo - Nastia Liukin falls hard, Tarnoh withdraws and Katie wins 800Nastia Liukin has shown why she is an Olympian.

Olympic Trials continue throughout the world, but I am focused on those in the US and Canada.  Yesterday, Liukin was in the middle of her uneven parallel bars routine when she fell flat on her face.

Even her spotter didn't see it coming and was unable to stop the fall.  Fortunately, she fell on thick padding and was able to get up and resume the routine, finishing it in top notch fashion.

Unfortunately, the 2008 Olympic Champion will not travel to London for the 2012 Olympics.  Her 2008 Olympic teammate, and Captain, Alicia Sacramone, will also not make the journey to London.  At 24, Alicia  has more medals than any other female American gymnast, but is now considered "old" for gymnastics.

The US Olympic Women's Gymnastics team has been set, with Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross

In swimming trials, 15 year old Katie Ledecky qualified for her first Olympics by winning the 800 meter freestyle final.

In track and field events, Jeneba Tarnoh, who was scheduled to compete with Allyson Felix, has conceded the position.  The two finished in a dead heat in the qualifying rounds, and the USATAF decided that a run-off was required.  Tarnoh felt she had earned the position fairly, and felt robbed by the decision.  Instead of running the deciding race, however, Tarnoh relinquished her position on the team.  She will remain the alternate for that race and is in the relay pool.

As events continue today, feel free to post results, and your thoughts about the same.

Yeah, I had to wonder when I read the names if one of them will be the sweetheart of the Olympics...
