Monday night, Natalie Coughlin broke the 100-meter backstroke world record in a prelim heat, so it only figured that she'd set the mark again Tuesday when she actually had to give it her all.
Coughlin became the first woman to swim the race in under 59 seconds with a time of 58.97. Congratulations to the pool in Omaha, as well as the technology behind the swimsuit... oh, and to Natalie.
Remember Hayley McGregory, who previously set the backstroke world record only to watch Coughlin take it back two minutes later? Well she didn't even qualify for the Olympics, finishing third in the final heat. Quite a two-day turn of events for the 22-year-old Texan.
On the men's side, Aaron Peirsol set the men's 100-meter backstroke mark, a record he previously held, with a time of 52.98.
Two world records shattered on Tuesday and neither of them came from Michael Phelps? Slacker.
