The Cubs began the day with the best record in baseball, and looked to stay that way, playing against the Nationals, the team with the worst record in baseball. But the Nationals had different plans, and Willie Harris, Aaron Boone and Rafael Belliard combined for 11 RBI to lead the Nationals over the Cubs, 13-5.Belliard went 4-5, with 2 HR (including a grand slam), 3 runs and 6 RBI. Boone had a pinch-hit 3-run HR, and Belliard was 4-5 with a HR, 3 runs and 2 RBI.
The Cubs got out to an early 4-0 lead, and Jason Marquis held the Nationals scoreless through 5 innings. But in the 6th, everything fell apart for the Cubbies, and the Nationals scored 6. They proceeded to score in each of the remaining innings to complete the blowout.
