Neither Kobe Bryant's Lakers Nor LeBron James' Cavaliers Will Make The Finals
Sorry David Stern, No Kobe Or LeBron In The Finals

From the very beginning of the year, I have said two things:

The Lakers won't win a championship because Kobe isn't Michael Jordan, and won't be able to carry the Lakers unless Andrew Bynum becomes a key part of their offense.

The Cavaliers won't win a championship because they don't have that second star to compliment LeBron.

Even as the Cavaliers and Lakers both dominated opponent after opponent on their way to the two best records in the NBA, I still wasn't satisfied.

As I have said many times, being great in the regular season doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be great in the playoffs. Certain teams are built for the playoffs, and I didn't believe the Lakers and Cavaliers were.

However, before the playoffs, I started wondering whether my predictions weren't going to come true. The Lakers and the Cavaliers were almost everybody's favorites to clash in the finals, and I wondered if I was just afraid to take my predictions back.

Throughout the season, most Cavaliers fans have accused me of not actually watching the games, being biased, or not realizing how good Moe Williams was.

I would tell them that I actually liked the Cavaliers, but respected the history of basketball and believed that Moe Williams was not a true superstar. Besides Hakeem in 94, history has shown it is impossible for one man to carry a team on his back to a championship.

LeBron needs that second guy that he just doesn't have. So far Moe Williams has shown that he is no Scottie Pippen, as he has shot poorly all series long.

Most Lakers fans have failed to see the lack of mental toughness the Lakers have. Besides Kobe's horrid shooting (.405 FGP) in the finals last year, the main problem for the Lakers was that they couldn't handle the Celtics physical play.

When Andrew Bynum got hurt, I immediately pronounced that the Lakers weren't going to win a championship. Bynum brings that big physical presence that the Lakers need in order to win a title.

However, once he came back before the playoffs, I was no longer sure the Lakers weren't going to win it all.

Obviously, I knew it was going to take Bynum a while to get back to where he was before he got injured. However, even so, I expected him to be a key contributor, especially deeper in the playoffs.

However, the Lakers haven't let Bynum play enough. And when is playing, he is not getting the ball enough. For a young player like Bynum, it is very important for the Lakers to let him get in rhythm.

However, when he has started off poorly, the Lakers foolishly tend to ignore him the rest of the game. If the Lakers do lose to the Nuggets, it's because they never tried to get Bynyum going.

As it stands, the Cavaliers are down 1-3 to the Magic, with the series likely over. The Magic just have too many weapons and the Cavaliers frankly don't have enough.

Although the Lakers are tied with the Nuggets 2-2, the series could very well be over already.

The Nuggets, after leading in both 4th quarters of the game one and three, basically gave both games away.

This series isn't like the Rockets-Lakers series, because there is no underdog. No team is at a disadvantage at any position, like the Rockets were down low.

The winner of this series will just come down to who is playing better. Right now, I don't see how you can't say that the Nuggets are playing better than the Lakers.

Right now, my predictions from the beginning of the season look accurate.

Sorry David Stern, but no Kobe or LeBron in this year's finals.

It might not be Kobe and Lebron, but it might be Kobe and Dwight Howard. The Lakers will win tonight, and win Game 7 at home. Game 6 will go too the Denver Nugget's (I hate too say it, but they do play a lot better at home) however the ref's will be doing a lot better job too, so it might be over at game 6?

Great article - thanks for posting this. I agree with you about your analysis but unfortunately I don't agree with your conclusion - I would love to see the Nuggets take care of business and while Kobe is not Jordan he is a helluva lot better than any player on the Nuggets. Not to mention they have to play in LA 2 more times. The Lakers will prevail.

What it is, These two teams aren't sitting and watching KOBE or Lebron like the rest of world including there untalented (not showing any) teammates.  I thought the hoopla was a bit much but Go DENVER go ORLANDO.  These teams cam to play that's why im rooting for the UNDERDAWGSSSSS.  What the other post'ers don't realize is that the Nuggets and Magic are teams.  They best players don't have to be the 30 to 40 point scorers in these games for them to win.  Lebron challenged his team and they couldn't come threw. Same for cube I meant kobe.  LOL.  Just cause you are unstoppable and a great player doesn't make your TEAM any better. Not one U in team.

I am a cavs supporter, but I think that the Magic deserve the 3 games they have won. They have overplayed the other starting 4, not giving any help for LeBron. Also if the cavs are going to win, they need to block the 3 pointers. In the west, I see that the Lakers should go through, but I wouldn't be suprised if they challenge in Game 7.

It would be funny if no Kobe vs Lebron.......Denver? vs Orlando?.......2 teams no one thought would make it in the beginning of the season. Honestly, I still might catch a game or 2 or a half or a minute of the series.

Kobe and Lakers will make it. Melo has been banged up for past 2 games and I dont see Denver winning a game on Lakers homecourt

Ummm... they have already won a game in LA. And the other game was ridiculously close. What makes you think they can't do it again?

This is why they play the games. Nothing is guaranteed.

Now if we start seeing David Stern and the refs throwing Vitamin Water bottles at people guardian Kobe and LeBron then we will know for sure that the NBA is as staged as wrestling.

For all the talk that the league wants Kobe/Lebron what about TNT and ESPN/ABC wanting this matchup as well.  TNT's analysts at least are pretty much even up when it comes to their coverage.  ESPN's in game people including Magic Johnson,Jon Berry and Stuart Scott are way one sided for Cavs/Lakers and if Kobe or Lebron ever comes to a complete stop "their boy" Michael Wilbon will find his face straight up their backsides.

Ref's... that's why I think Denver might not be able to do it. If the Ref's start pencil whipping Denver to get Kobe and the Lakers to the finals... that should do the trick.

It sucks to be a Cavaliers fan at this point........I'm honestly disgusted by our play... this series is over, better luck next year, cause it may be our last chance with LeBron....

As for the Magic, i have to give 'em props...they are the best team in the east and i have to respect them. Turkgolu, Pietrus, Howard, Lewis and Alston, too much in the paint and too much 3 point danger for any team in the east to handle.... Best of luck to you in the Finals....

And one last thing....I love the Nuggets for their heart out there...  Birdman getting it done on the offensive glass, as well as blocking shots. I also have a hunch Melo will play better these next couple games, and I just don't see L.A. keeping up the pace.....Go Denver best of luck and Birdman get it done!!!!

If the Cavs win tomorrow in Game 5 at Home, the pressure goes back to the Magic because no way does LeBron lose a Game 7 at Home. If the Lakers go up 3-2 tonight, I don't see Denver winning 2 games in a row (One in L.A.) based on momentum and how the Lakers play at Home when it counts the most! I actually do see Kobe vs. King James in the NBA FInals still...You know we're going to see 2 Game 7's...You just know it....

All of you guys make valid point.. & I want Kobe & the Lakers to get their first one without Shaq, they deserve it, but right now all ya girl can say is....
"NBA Finals presents "Orlando Magic vs Denver Nuggets "... yea baby...

I totally agree with you on the superstars scoring 30-40 points and the rest of the team doesn't show up!  Also it seems I find myself rooting for the underdawgs, too. Great post!

Can anyone write an article without  hating on the Lakers? The Lakers will win the NBA title if they continue with home court advantage. The Nuggets, Cavs or the Magic haven't won jack crap yet. Its the Lakers to lose. They all should be lucky they got this far in the playoffs.
