Nelson Oliveira rubbishes reports about a move to Manchester United in near future
The on-loan Benfica forward Nelson Oliveira killed rumors about his transfer to Manchester United. Reports show Sir Alex Ferguson is quite interested in bringing young Portugal international to Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old forward, who is currently playing for Deportivo La Coruna, has proven to be a useful asset off the bench. The hardworking striker has impressed a number of top notch European clubs with his intelligence up front.
Rife rumors suggest Chelsea is also preparing a bid for Nelson Oliveira. Apparently, their manager Roberto Di Matteo sees Nelson Oliveira as perfect replacement for Chelsea’s legendary striker Didier Drogba.
Nelson Oliveira has yet to prove his success on the big scale, although he has a number of impressive performances for his club and country.
Finding it difficult to feature in Benfica’s first team, Nelson Oliveira opted for a loan move this summer. He will be featuring in La Liga for the remaining season. However, Nelson Oliveira could be shipped off in the winter transfer window if Benfica receive an attractive bid.
Nelson Oliveira has already netted two goals in four appearances for Deportivo La Coruna. According to reports from an insider, Manchester United scouts are insisting on bringing Nelson Oliveira to Old Trafford.
In spite of such reports, Nelson Oliveira isn’t interested to make a move to Manchester United just yet. It appears as if Nelson Oliveira understands he will be overshadowed at the English club.
“I do not think about the rumors of leaving because I am good at Coruna,” Nelson Oliveira said. “I am focused on having a good season here. The season has started now and I am not paying any interest to the news I could leave.”
Manchester United already has four strikers fighting for first team opportunities; Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. Therefore, adding Nelson Oliveira to the list would only create more distress.
Meanwhile, Chelsea and Newcastle United closely monitor the whole saga. They will most probably attempt to sign him in during the winter transfer window.
It is believed Benfica will be willing part away from Nelson Oliveira for as much as £7 million, which is a reasonable price considering Nelson Oliveira is yet unproven on the larger scale and will be used as an off the bench striker before he gains experience.
