Not sure if you heard since it's hardly been hyped, but Apple announced the imminent release of it's new 3G iPhone. Along with this, a 2.0 software release that will with many significant app opportunities. So what in the hell does this have to do with sports? Well, sports fans, and in particular, baseball fans may have come away as the big winner in the iPhone app department.
As you can see from the image at the right, you'll be able to get live real-time scoring with individual box scores and play-by-play. That's nothing terribly new to the iPhone, but as you can see the visual is far more compelling than anything you can currently find.
That's not real home run, though. The big wow is that you'll also being able to get highlight shortly after plays are finished. Yes, plays. Just noticed Barry Zito served up another tape measure home run? You'll be able to check it long before the game is finished. MLB offers this via their website, but to have them in your hand is a different story.
Awesome.
The overall win for sports fans as a whole is that the NBA, NFL and other leagues will have no choice but to follow MLB.tv's brilliant path.
