New England Patriots QB Tom Brady Hurt In 1st Quarter Against the Kansas City Chiefs
Down Goes Brady! Down Goes Brady! Man... Man, I Hope This Doesn't Last Long
There were rumors that Tom Brady wouldn't even play for the first few games of the 2008 season. Those turned out to be false, but now Patriots fans might be wishing they were true.

Brady was removed from the game in the 1st quarter, after Chiefs safety Brandon Pollard hit his knee awkwardly.

It didn't look too bad, and Brady was at least able to hobble off the field with a little help, but this definitely isn't good news for Patriots fans.

Brady was 7-11 for 76 yards before the injury, and his streak of 127 straight starts is 3rd among all active players behind only Brett Favre and Peyton Manning.

It's possible that this is just a precaution, because the Patriots may feel that the Chiefs are a team they can beat with Matt Cassel under center, but we will learn more soon.

Matt Cassel performed very well today. It's probably good that he was able to play the pre-season
games or it may have been a different  outcome. Tom Brady will return as stong as ever, but it's good to know they have a backup QB that can step in and lead the team.

Why couldn't they beat the Jets? I hope you're not terribly impressed with the win over Miami... it's still the Dolphins.

The Pats without Brady are 1-0 so far. Say what you want, but Cassel actually looked decent today. I'm not saying he's the long term answer, but they still have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. Their only real weakness is their QB (now) and their CB's.

I think I would probably be more impressed with a victory over the Dolphins than the Chiefs.  Don't get me wrong, the Dolphins aren't great, but they didn't look too bad today.  They are moving in the right direction.  I think the Pats are in trouble if Brady is out for the season.

Yeah, my comment makes me have no life. Right!

I did not say anything to you, Pat (writer of the blog), nor did I say anything about anyone on FanIQ. Everyone hates players one way or another. I just happen to have a fond hatred towards Brady. You can tell me to get a life all you want, I don't care. Just shows what kind of person you are. Pot calling the kettle black on that one, lady.

Oh yeah... right! Forgot you jumped on that bandwagon...

Eh... she's right. Anyone who is happy about an injury is pretty much scum. If the dress fits, wear it. I wasn't even happy when Ben Roethlisberger wiped out, and that's something that was actually HIS fault, too.

I'm not going to debate whether or not you have a life. I'd probably lean towards no, but that's kinda irrelevant. But there's no doubt you lack class.

Those guys are both huge d-bags, but I'd rather see my team beat the Chargers WITH both of them. I love seeing Merriman get his retarded dance shoved back in his face (and then LT whining about it), and Rivers yell at fans after a loss. That stuff is just classic. With Rivers and Merriman on the sidelines, we would miss that stuff.

The two names,(midwest news much slower than east coast) that I have heard tossed about as Brady's temporary replcements are Chris Simms and Tim Rattay.  That tells me the Pats must be pretty confident in Castle because neither one of those guys is the answer.

Honestly, I don't think anyone knows what Matt Cassel is capable of. Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying that's a good thing. But if he actually plays well, it wouldn't be THAT surprising.

His entire career (college and pro) has consisted of backing up THE best player in the country, whether it was Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart or Brady. So maybe he's just a career backup... or maybe he's been the 2nd best QB in the nation for years now, and we just didn't know it.

Ok, so that's ridiculous. But the bottom line, I don't think anyone can really say that they know Cassel sucks... or that they know he's good. He hasn't played in a meaningful game since high school.

I am not putting Cassel has the 2nd coming of Joe Montana.  However if Rattay is so good why is he not still in SF as a starter?  I watched Chris Simms for his college days at Texas and he was a very good college quarterback.  For that matter so were Matt Leinart,Vince Young,Eric Crouch,Joey Harrington and David Carr to name a few.  Other than Young I didn't see any of them staring anywhere on Sunday and Young might not be this Sunday.

If New England bombs, do they go to the Kevin O'Connell kid that they drafted?  They may as well, even if it 3,4, or 5 years until he sees the field full time.  That is, assuming that they bomb.  I guess I'll wait until this week to say how I think they'll do.

Yeah, and you're teaming up with your girlfriend shows class. Right! I never said anything about enjoying someone's injury. When I posted that post, I never heard it was season ending. I only heard that it was a minor injury at that point. Which, obviously by the title of this blog... you thought yourself.

Personally attacking me (by your girlfriend) definitely shows class!!! haha! Whatever.

I've been on here once every 2 weeks or so, and you take her side and say I have no life? hehe. OK. Whatever floats your boat.

He couldn't get past Carson Palmer either.  Just out of curiosity?  Was Brady a starter in college?  How did Brady and Kurt Warner get their shots in the NFL?  I think it was injuries to Drew Bledsoe and Trent Green  right?  Not that Cassel is in their league however, he gets his shot.  Rudy, Rudy,Rudy.  I just love where the underdog gets his shot at glory.

You are right.  I do think that is still good enough to win that division and get into the playoffs where as all knows anything can happen.  As you can tell I have been taking and passing those superstars interview 101 classes by the mere mention of anything goes comment.
