I don't usually pay any attention to preseason NFL football, and tonight is really no exception, but I still might sneak a quick peek at this game. The reason why is because it's a reasonably intriguing match-up. I don't think anyone in their right mind thought the Giants would win the Super Bowl last year, and I don't think anyone thinks they'll win it this year, either. So, even though they're the defending Super Bowl champs, it seems like they still have something to prove this year.
Meanwhile, the Browns were a complete surprise with Derek Anderson manning the helm last season, and Cleveland rewarded Anderson's quality play with a 3-year contract (and let Romeo Crennel keep his job). Obviously, Anderson has to prove that he wasn't just a one-year wonder.
While we won't see much of the Giants first team unit, nor will we see much of Anderson, we at least can see if Brady Quinn's getting any better. Reports out of camp on him haven't been all that great. Quinn, of course, also has something to prove - that he's any good. I wouldn't be surprised that if Anderson starts of this season well, you may begin to see the Browns shopping Quinn. Quinn's stock is still pretty high, but if the Browns have him sit this year, and a year after this one, his trade value could drop substantially.
Anyway, we'll see. Personally, I think Quinn is an inaccurate passer who was picked a lot higher than he should have been. Plus he was an idiot by holding out last season and talking about how he should be a starting quarterback in the NFL, all while Anderson shut his mouth and did his job.
So yeah, you can tell who I'm rooting for.
Q it up here for the game.
