New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan still with NY but no updates on contract
The franchise and Callahan have yet to settle on a mutually agreed contract which will benefit both parties. Still they disagree and talks are continuing but it clearly shows both sides for now are looking to get what they want and are not willing to make compromises.
After the contract expired Callahan will become a free agent. The team has chosen to get the contract slimmed down a notch. First they were approached with an offer of a 7 year contract that would give Callahan 6.5$ million dollars per season. Now they are offering him a contract that will guarantee between $6.25 to $6.5 million per year. It remains to be seen which one of the offers will be accepted and worked upon but sources confirm Callahan’s agent is hard at work and working dutifully to get the contract done.
For a contract that spans 6 years, it has to be taken into consideration about that caliber of the player being signed in. so far so good as there are many teams that would be glad to have Callahan at their side.
The problem is that General Manager Glen Sather does not have a mind to spend so much on a single player. Although he agrees on keeping Callahan for the long run, he has yet to be convinced that Callahan deserves the money that he is asking.
