I know many South Florida fans are upset with Nick Saban in regard to his recent complaints that South Florida has an advantage due to its lenient admissions policy."The distribution of players is not the same for everybody," he told the News. "There's a significant amount of players who don't qualify (at some schools) and they end up being pretty good players at some other schools. I think there are six guys starting on South Florida's defense who probably could have gone to Florida or Florida State but Florida and Florida State couldn't take them. And if you do a good job of recruiting that way ..."Disregard for a moment that what Saban said is accurate. South Florida is able to take a few more chances on kids who are borderline. His even bothering to complain about South Florida is a HUGE compliment. Why? Do you know what $aban was doing last Friday night? He was scared $hitless of how good the South Florida Bulls looked on national television, felt threatened by Jim Leavitt's likeability factor to impressionable Florida recruits, and found them a legit recruiting threat in the south.
Saban is coaching Alabama. ALABAMA. A national power with just about every other advantage in the books (and off the books ... zing!) going their way. Classic Nick. This is the same guy that left Michigan State because he felt couldn't (read: afraid) compete with Michigan, even though the Spartans had slightly more lenient admissions policies themselves.
No worries, Bulls fans. Take this as a compliment. Friday night was the first major sign that South Florida will be a force in the future. Nick Saban's whining was the second.
