Nightly Q

Can Chris Paul Drive A Stake Through The Spurs' Hearts?

by 100%InjuryRate 100%InjuryRate | 5 days ago48 Comment Comments »

Nightly Q PhotoHere's what was going on, at least on the blog, today.

1. Athletes are paying a lot for gas as well. Especially if the drive a Ford F650 SuperTruck.
2. Another candidate for father of the year emerges.
3. Charles Barkley confirms what we've always thought about him.
4. Dusty Baker continues to abuse pitchers' arms.
5. Even without the Rams Super Bowl walkthrough, Spygate is important.

All right, tonight is huge. It's Game 3 of the Hornets/Spurs series. This is either the night where San Antonio decides to turn this into a series or Chris Paul decides to put his foot on Bruce Bowen's throat. I'm hoping the second one happens, whether New Orleans wins or not.

Also, there's some game in the Leastern Conference featuring two teams who can't hit a shot to save their lives. I plan on sleeping through that game.

Last but not least, there's MLS Soccer. MLS Soccer? That's league's still in existence? Man, you learn something new every day.

NBA: Eastern Conference semifinals, Game 2, Cleveland at Boston (ESPN, 7 p.m.); Western Conference semifinals, Game 3, New Orleans at San Antonio (ESPN, 9:30 p.m.)

NHL: Western Conference finals, Game 1, Dallas at Detroit (Versus, 7:30 p.m.)

Soccer: MLS, Chicago at D.C. United (ESPN2, 7:30 p.m.)

WHAT was that ESPN intro?

Interesting, Wally chose to not go with the spiky hair look tonight. Patted down version.

(I laugh, because I hung out with Wally a couple times in college and this was a regular point of ripping with his friends.)

Is Ben Wallace dying? Seriously.

So your team is struggling to score runs, and you decide to jump start the line up by sitting your MVP candidate from last year, a potential 30/30 guy, put your God-awful SS in the 5 hole, and put a career minor-leaguer in the 3 hole.  This year is lost already so why not fire Yost now and find out if Simmons can manage a baseball game, because clearly Yost is dumbass.

OK, that was borderline Manu-ness by Lebron. That was bad.

Best idea ever from Van Gundy.

Ability for the league office to evaluate game film to more accurately discipline for flopping.

Was that really a foul on Delonte West? Refs make too many calls based on what they think will happen.

+1 thumbs upThe announcing team for the NO/SA game are really going to drive me crazy. Why would they put those two at that game?
#9 | 5 days ago

+1 thumbs upDumbass quote of the night: Jon Barry - "Come on, they're the champs, until New Orleans wins that fourth game - it's going back to Texas 2-2"  What if they win the third game, Jonny boy?

I was only kidding about the announcing crew for the NO/SA until the game started. These two are really bad. Isn't there a WNBA game they could be doing instead.

CP3 has over a 10:1 assist to turnover ratio in the playoffs.

+1 thumbs upWhile also making just about every Spur that tries to guard him look like a fool.

Hard to beat the Hornets when they are getting the benefits of the calls to start the 2nd half... and it is on the Spurs' homecourt. Crazy. Spurs look for once they will hold tight through 3, but you can't gain ground if you got dumb calls going against you 1/2 of your plays on both sides of the court.

no, great defense... it's just that Chris Paul is becoming one hell of a player.

+1 thumbs upAs good of a basketball player that Chris Paul is, he is 10x's a better person too.

He is making them look foolish too which is saying a lot because I don't think anyone since Hakeem has done that.

Another one. Ely had Duncan's left arm
#18 | 5 days ago

Wow, a call.

Must win, everyone on the Spurs bench knows it, and this game is not even close to what games 1 and 2 were like. Spurs have FINALLY come to play. Let's coral this series, please.

As proven by the story with the child named Brian.  Its too bad he wasn't able to meet him, I'm sure it would've meant a lot to both of them.

I don't know why it would be a surprise that the Hornets are getting calls.  The Spurs play thug basketball.  They practically are begging to be called for fouls.
#22 | 5 days ago

We can all agree that if the Hornets win this game, the series is over? As good as the Spurs are, I see no way that they could win four in a row.

Tony Parker has one hell of a playoff beard.

I agree... and a PQ is about to follow this comment.

+1 thumbs upHow the hell did CP3 pull that off.
#27 | 5 days ago

what a shot... wow
#28 | 5 days ago

Tim Duncan owns Ely.  Tyson Chandler really needs to avoid stupid fouls.
#29 | 5 days ago

Melvin Ely sucks.

They still call three seconds on offense in the NBA? They don't even call that in the 8th grade games that I coached in.
