Nightly Q: Can The NBA Please Start Doing Flex Games?
READ MORE:
Awful lot of stuff on TV tonight, although very little of it is any good. Stanford/ASU is worth checking out, and so is Dallas/Phoenix, even without Shaq in the lineup.

The real wart on tonight's schedule is that dreadful Chicago/Miami game. Just brutal. Who in God's name would go to that game on Valentine's Day? Let alone watch it. No one, literally no one. Even D-Wade is mad about having to play in this one. The NBA better find a way to do that Flex Game deal that the NFL did pretty effectively this last season.

College men's basketball: North Carolina State at Boston College (ESPN, 7 p.m.); Rutgers at West Virginia (ESPN2, 7 p.m.); Michigan at Iowa (ESPN, 9 p.m.); Fordham at Massachusetts (ESPN2, 9 p.m.); Stanford at Arizona State (FSN, 10:30 p.m.)

College women's basketball:  LSU at Tennessee (FSN, 6:30 p.m.)

Golf: PGA European Tour, Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open, first round, at Jakarta (Golf Channel, 7:30 a.m., same-day tape); PGA Tour, Northern Trust Open, first round, at Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Golf Channel, 3 p.m.); LPGA, SBS Open, first round, at Kahuku, Hawaii (Golf Channel, 6:30 p.m.)

Motor sports: NASCAR Nationwide Series, final practice for Camping World 300, at Daytona Beach, Fla. (ESPN2, 9:30 p.m.); NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, practice for Chevy Silverado 250, at Daytona Beach, Fla. (Speed Channel, 11 a.m.); NASCAR Sprint Cup, Gatorade Duels, at Daytona Beach, Fla. (Speed Channel, 2 p.m.); Craftsman Truck Series, pole qualifying for Chevy Silverado 250 (Speed Channel, 7 p.m.)

NBA: Miami at Chicago (TNT, 8:15 p.m.); Dallas at Phoenix (TNT, 10:30 p.m.)

Unfortunately, all of tonights hockey is regional, so I've got nothing.  Might watch some college ball, but this will probably be a video game night.

Actually, the Tennessee women's game starts at 6:29 to accommodate for any extra time that may be added to game.

2 things:

1- I will be watching Phoenix vs. Dallas tonight.
2- I like the flex scheduling idea. What I can't stand about the idea is the fact that it would always be the same teams/games. SA, Dallas, Phoenix, LA, Detroit, and Boston. If they could guarentee some variety, I'd be on board. But for now, I'm not. I'll just find something else to do if it's a crappy game.

Flex scheduling will never work in the NBA.  How many times does a game become uninteresting the day of the game?  Heck, Kobe got suspended the day of the Lakers-Knicks game, a potential ratings bonanza, last year.

while flex scheduling is never perfect, I think any other game could top heat-bulls.

Kobe might be out 6 weeks.  Horrible news.

If you really think that, then turn to ESPN and try to watch the Iowa/Michigan game. Yeesh.

I figured you meant NBA but wow, I watched 10 minutes of that Michigan/Iowa game and that was 9 minutes and 30 second too long. Why can't the Suns/Warriors/Hornets plays each other every night.

Doug Gotlieb would like to remind you not to be a ball watcher.

ASU blew a huge lead, then Stanford blew a huge lead, now we're heading for overtime.

You get the rebound with nine seconds left and a wide open look for a quick lay-up/dunk, why not take the quick two and then foul? Good win for ASU.

Arizona State 72, #7 Stanford 68

This doesn't seal a tournament bid, but it's going to look damn good on their resume.

The non-conference schedule was pretty weak, but they do have that big win against Xavier. Throw in this Stanford win and 2 wins against Arizona, and that's not bad. Hopefully they can win a few more down the stretch and in the Pac-10 tournament to lock up a spot.

They're up to 16 wins now?  If they get 20 they should be in easy.

ASU beat Stanford.

The Coyotes beat the Stars.

The Suns beat the Mavs.

Not a bad way to celebrate Arizona Statehood Day.
