We have an epic match-up tonight in the NBA. Chicago versus Miami. It's such a bad game that ESPN decided they better show college hoops on the flagship channel instead. Probably a solid call.

But it's also a game worth watching to see which team is actually worse. The team that most people expected to start to make a serious push in the East (Bulls) or the team that everyone thought would use veteran guile to squeak into the playoffs (Heat). Both are ridiculous disappointments this year. I'm not counting Minnesota because I had them pegged for 2 wins this season and they've already surpassed my expectations.

College men's basketball:  Duke at Florida State (ESPN, 7 p.m.); North Carolina at Georgia Tech (ESPN, 9 p.m.); Texas A&M at Texas Tech (ESPN2, 9:30 p.m.)

Golf:  PGA Tour, Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, first round, at La Quinta, Calif. (The Golf Channel, 3 p.m.)

NBA:  Chicago at Miami (ESPN2, 7 p.m.)

Tennis:  Australian Open, early rounds, at Melbourne (ESPN Classic, 6 a.m., and ESPN2, 11:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m., live; ESPN2, 3 p.m., same-day tape)

This North Carolina vs Georgia Tech game has been really entertaining.

The freethrows down the stretch was despicable from North Carolina. After going 20+ without missing, you miss 5 of your next 8? Horrible, just horrible. I am not going into the rest of the game, but I hope Kansas takes over the number one spot on the next poll.

The UNC-GT game was a fun game to watch, but good gawd, where was the defense?  I enjoy high-scoring games, but there wasn't an ounce of defense on that floor this evening.  Good win for the Heels, but they are two tip-ins from being 1-2 in the ACC.

The Duke game was just pathetic with Mike Patrick calling the game.  I love how an FSU guy gets pulled down from behind, then on the next possession is hit in the head, falls down and almost hits little Greggy Paulus while Paulus is kicking at an FSU player;  Greggy then acts like he got hit in the face and the refs give the FSU player a T.  And of course, Patrick talks it up like the FSU guy rared up and cold-cocked poor lil' Greggy and there was no mention of Greg's actions prior to that.  Patrick is easily my most hated announcer and Paulus is easily my most hated college BB player.

I wish he would have cold cocked Paulus.

Dicky V takes a lot of heat for being a Dookie, but he's nothing compared to Mike Patrick. Dicky V at least loves every team, and then Duke a little more.  Patrick despises anything that could slightly harm Duke.

 

Just watched the video again, and quite frankly, Patrick is even more pathetic than I originally thought.  I could see if Bilas was somewhat biased because he'd actually have a reason to be.  However, he was the voice of reason.
