Nightly Q: Will Whitlock Be Watching Kansas-Texas On Big Monday?

It should hardly be a surprise that on the Monday following a weekend full of Top 25 teams going down, Jason Whitlock would pen a column about how boring the college basketball season has become. Well, if he wasn't pleased by this weekend's action, we'd suggest tuning into Kansas visiting Texas tonight. Last year's two meetings were decided by four points each, the second of which decided the Big 12 Tournament Championship in overtime. Check it out, Whitlock. It's called college basketball.

Here's what else is on:
NBA: Washington at Golden State (10:30, NBATV) -- Over/Under on points set at 332

Men's College Hoops: Villanova at Georgetown (7, ESPN); Kansas at Texas (9, ESPN); Saint Mary's at Santa Clara (11, ESPN2)

Women's College Hoops: Rutgers at Tennessee (7, ESPN2)

NHL: Phoenix at Dallas (7, Versus)

Non-sports choice? The Westminster Dog Show, of course. (8, USA)

Bark it up here if you're so inclined.

I wish just once, that CBS would pair Gus Johnson with Bill Raftery. That would be the great game ever and I don't care who's playing.

That's an awful call. How do you possibly make a call like that with less than a second, 80-ft from the basket to end a game? Are these Big Ten refs?

Pretty bad call.

Yeah, that was a brutal call.

Texas on fire from downtown early.  Kansas' weak spot defensively is guarding the 3-point line, and Texas has the tools to exploit it all night.

I'd be on board with saying Abrams is the best long range shooter in the country. He's a little, OK, a lot streaky but I'm having trouble convincing myself of a better shooter.

I'd agree with that;  the kid is a chucker, but at least they go in most of the time.  I'm pretty sure I've never seen him pass up an open shot.

Abrams and Augstine are going to have to hit their shots to win tonight.

This Kansas team is awfully tough to defend.  You go man-to-man, you get burnt by drives in the lane from Collins and Chalmers.  You go zone, they pick you apart at the elbow with their good-shooting big men and outside shooting from Rush/Chalmers.

Would you say Kansas is the favorite to win it all this year? I don't see many teams that can beat them.

I'm sure the announcer will mention it, but I believe Texas' Wangmene is the adopted son of Spur GM RC Buford.  Buford's other son, Chase, is a walk-on for KU.

Well, as much as there can be a "favorite" in college basketball, they are one of the top 3 with Memphis(I love their underrated D and CDR) and I still believe in UCLA.  With that said, I'd give no better than a 50% chance to any of those 3 teams for even making the final four.

Wednesday Night: Maryland at Duke with Mike Patrick & Dick Vitale, I don't know if there is anything that I could get me to watch that.

Wow, Fran Fraschilla *gasp* promoting another media outlet? He's bound to get fired by the WWL for that.

I'm not sold on Memphis. I don't think they can get stops when they need to or get a key bucket in a half court game when they need one. If they run into a team that slows it down and makes it a physical  half court game, they will struggle.

Fraschilla was right on target with his comment about Augustin needing to be a distributor right now.  He's driving past his defender at will into the lane and is drawing defenders.  He should be passing that up in favor of the easy buckets he has set up his teammates for, via his penetration, since he's obviously off on his offense right now.

As you probably recall, this is my frustration with Augustin and why I don't like him as much as most people. He needs to be more of a PG. Instead he forces too many bad shots.

Yeah, I remember.  I still think he's the best PG in the nation when he's on, but when he's forcing it, like tonight, he really does hurt his team, like you had previously said.  I have a feeling that Barnes' notorious "coaching" abilities haven't helped him too much this season.

Well I don't know if that was enough for Whitlock, but more than entertaining enough for me through the first half.

Ha, Abrams nearly hit that.

G'Town is getting more favorable late game calls than Duke this year.  The sad thing is both 'Nova and West Virginia could end the year being on the bubble, and that win against Georgetown would look good if it was there (in West Va's case, they got straight up robbed of a win.)

There's the aforementioned drive and dish by Augustin we've been looking for.

This game is getting sloppy and the officiating has just been weird this half.

James is just a disgusting player when he wants to be.

How good would Oklahoma be right now if he and Reynolds decided to keep their commitment there?

You could hear a collective gasp in Texas when KU almost stole that ball on the inbounds.

Trust me I know how good they would be and it almost sickens me. OU's guard play is god awful right now and Reynolds is amazing.

Wow, ANOTHER classic between KU and Texas.  This is one of the matchups I look forward to every season, because it's always a great one.  This year certainly didn't disappoint.

Man that would've been awesome if that shot fell.

Definitely a boring game.
