Anyone who travels knows that your chances of being randomly picked for a secondary check at Customs are not always....random.  Aldon Smith is tall, well built and black.  I'm sorry, I mean no disrespect, but those are the facts.  Customs agents may well and truly have chosen him randomly, but then again, the stereotype might have played a factor.

In any case, what could have been over in just a few more minutes has now escalated to charges and a trip to LAPD headquarters.

Allegedly, Aldon Smith became agitated when pulled aside for a secondary screening.  As he became agitated he, allegedly, told agents that he had a bomb.

The full statement from the LA Police Information Officer is:
At approximately 1400 hrs, a 24 year-old male resident of San Jose, California, was going through Terminal 1 screening and was randomly selected for a secondary screening. The suspect then became belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent, making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding towards the gate area. Los Angeles Airport Police made contact with him at the gate and he was positively identified as the person in question.  Once again the male subject became uncooperative and he was detained and taken into custody by Airport Police and is currently being transported to LAPD for booking.

Whether it is, in fact, Aldon Smith has not been released, but the San Francisco 49'ers operation released the following statement:
"We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith," San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in the team's statement Sunday. "As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment."

The police and other legal authorities may be reluctant to state conclusively that Aldon Smith is involved, but the 49'ers have no such qualms.

Aldon Smith is no stranger to trouble, having been charged with weapons offences back in 2012, and missing a good portion of the 2013 season due to rehab.  He has been charged with DUI twice in recent years.  Although his skill on the football field is undeniable, his life off the field is a bit of a train wreck.

Will the 49'ers keep Smith?  Or will he be offered up to another team in trade?  What are your thoughts?
