The Fighting Irish have just one returning starter from last year's secondary on the team this season: senior safety Jamoris Slaughter.
Wood, along with counterpart Bennett Jackson, were both expected to replace corners Robert Blanton and Gary Gray. Now coach Brian Kelly will be forced to start an underclassman with little-to-no experience, such as Jalen Brown, KeiVarae Russell or Josh Atkinson.
Wood played in 21 games during his first two seasons with Notre Dame, compiling 10 tackles and an interception.
