As the Notre Dame Fighting Irish just squeeked by the San Diego State Aztecs 21-13 on Saturday, the only thing I could think of is all the mistakes this Irish squad made. Even though Jimmy Claussen's 237 pass yards and Notre Dame's 105 yard rushing attack is a big improvement from last year's offensive attack that was last in the nation, they were playing a team that lost to Cal Poly from the FCS series last week. Their defense looked sharp for most of the game as well, but then again how many BCS bowl games has San Diego State been in. The fact that the Irish made some crucial turnovers in the redzone when they could have pulled away from SDSU shows that Notre Dame does not have a true identity to me yet. In all reality, Notre Dame could've smoked this team, but they didn't, as a matter of fact, it took them three-and- a half quarters to pull ahead in this game. As Notre Dame faces another rebuilding team in Michigan next week, I don't know what to think of this year's Irish squad. I have no idea what to expect from them or what potential they have because they made tons of mistakes against a mediocre team in San Diego State this week, but they did pull out a win. Sophomores Jimmy Claussen, Golden Tate, and Armando Allen did show a lot of promise in this week's win but will it be enough to lead ND back to the Promised Land? I guess we got 11 more games to find out.
