I'm not sure whether this is good news, but at least the Raiders have made up their mind (we think) about their starting quarterback for Week 1. Surprisingly, it's not Daunte Culpepper. Adam Schefter of the NFL Network says it's Josh McCown despite the San Francisco Chronicle going with Culpepper this morning. I'll take Schefter over any local beat writer. My guess is that after the Raiders lose the opening game and struggle against what should be an improved Lions defense, Culpepper will take over by at least Week 3.
More importantly for the Raiders future, it appears a deal with 1st overall pick JaMarcus Russell is close. About time. Normally, I'd be giving Russell a hard time, but in this case I think it's the Raiders who've erred mightily. We'll wait and see what the official numbers are, but JaMarcus hasn't been asking for anything unreasonable. Simply, Al Davis hasn't caught up with the times.
