Ladies and gentlemen, Harrah’s Entertainment has finnaly announced the dates of the second annual World Series of Poker Europe. The 2008 event will be proudly presented by Betfair and held from September 19th to October 1st, 2008 in London, England. So, I guess you'll have to expect lots of 5 o'clock tea drinking, red-double decker buses, fancy mansions and, of course, a gigantic ego in the air.
Moreover, official representatives have stated that this year’s tournament will be hosted by London Clubs International and held at their St. James (Fifty), Leicester Square (The Casino at the Empire) and Marble Arch (Sportsman) locations, which allow me to say, it's like the “Mecca” of the British poker players.
In fact, the London Clubs International boss, Michael Silberling said he's looking forward to again “serving as hosts for this prestigious event”. And it will definitely be a sort of a “ first class tournament at a first class property”, as he added.
According to World Series of Poker Commissioner, Jeffrey Pollack: “It was a clean sweep for the Europeans last year. There are many, many talented players in the European poker community and I think it caught some of the world’s best known poker players by surprise. It’s safe to say the pros haven’t forgotten about last year and the young guns should expect a tougher fight in 2008.” However, the complete schedule for the 2008 WSOPE is currently being finalized and will be released soon.
According to the CEO of Betfair, David Yu: “Last year produced a fantastic tournament which exceeded all expectations. Online qualification for the 2008 event is already underway, so we’re expecting an even better contest this time around.” He also says that all the online qualifiers for the 2008 WSOPE are already out at Betfair Poker.
WSOPE in London is the British version of the famous WSOP event held annually in Las Vegas. The first edition was held in 2007 and saw Norway’s Annette Obrestad, as the first female winner of 1 million pounds. The poker gala also included top card masters like Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth and Johnny Chan.
In addition, the players at Betfair Poker can also try their luck at the WSOPE Main Event satellites, which is said to award two fat prize packages of abour 23,000 bucks, as well as a buy-in for the fabulous Londoneer Main Event, not to mention money for travel and accomodation. Don't forget London can deliver more extravaganza than Las Vegas!
