The first BCS is out. Ohio State is #1 as expected. The real surprise though is South Florida, #3 in the polls, is ranked ahead of Boston College at #2. The reason is obvious. The computers love the Bulls so far. All of them but one rank them at the top, with the other ranking them second. Despite what the polls say, it makes sense. South Florida's wins over Auburn (on the road) and West Virginia trump anything Boston College has done so far. If BC beats Virginia Tech on the road Other thoughts:
- Despite their loss, LSU is in the driver's seat if there's more chaos up top, taking the #4 spot by a healthy margin over Oklahoma.
- South Carolina and Kentucky are the next two at #6 and #7. If either win out to win the SEC East, then win the SEC championship game, they could sneak into the title game.
- Arizona State still isn't getting much respect in the polls, as they're still out of the top 10. However, thanks to high computer rankings, the Sun Devils are #8 in the BCS. Keep them in the mix of teams who are in it if they win out.
- Hawaii starts out 18th. Can they get into the top 12 and crash the BCS party?
What are your thoughts on the first BCS rankings of the year?
