Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham is on the 2009 John Mackey Award watch list released Wednesday by the Nassau County Sports Commission. Given annually to the best collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2009 John Mackey winner will be announced on December 10, 2009.
A first-team All-American last season by The Sporting News, Gresham hauled in 66 passes for 950 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Sooners in 2008. The TD total was the most ever in one season by an OU player.
Gresham, a Mackey finalist last season, has 26 career touchdown receptions, just five off the school record held by Mark Clayton.
The Ardmore, Okla., senior was named first-team All-Big 12 last season and earned that distinction again this year on the preseason all-conference team.
