I'm sure some of you out there remember Ole Miss basketball coach Andy Kennedy. He was the guy who while in Cincinnati for a tournament earlier this season allegedly punched a cab driver after getting wrecked at a bar. As an added bonus, Kennedy also tossed some racist comments at the cab driver, who is Arab. I'm sure you can guess how that went. On top of all that, Kennedy's wife then sued the cab driver because the incident left her husband, um, unable to perform in bed. So yeah, this whole thing has been awesomely embarrassing for Kennedy.
But now it gets even better and more embarrassing. Why? Because the Cincinnati police released their arrest video conversation with Kennedy the night he got into it with cabbie, and it is AWESOME.
Let's get right to it:
“I’m here for the Big East SEC challenge,” Kennedy was heard saying on the video, WLWT reports. “I’m playing Louisville and Rick Pitino tomorrow. I was the UC head coach. I am going to be on national television. If I’m not standing there at 9 p.m. tomorrow, this is an international altercation.”
And Kennedy wouldn't stop. He kept trying to convince the police not to arrest him.
“It’s not worth it. Please trust me. Please trust me on this. This is going to be a national incident, sir,” continued Kennedy.
Needless to say, the Cincinnati police were not impressed that Kennedy knew Rick Pitino, or was playing in the Big East SEC Challenge. And one officer fired back at Kennedy with what is easily the quote of the year:
“You think we’ve never arrested somebody that’s made national media? …We deal with the Bengals all the time."
Well played Mr. Police Officer. Well played.
UPDATE: Here's the video.
