Ole Miss QB Jeremy Liggins is Probably Bigger Than You
Hugh Freeze and the Ole Miss Rebels may have something very similar on their hands after accepting the transfer of junior college quarterback Jeremy Liggins earlier this year.
Listed at a gracious 6-foot-3, 296 pounds, Liggins isn’t your typical gunslinger. He outweighs every single defensive end on the roster and could be confused for one of the offensive linemen.
But don’t let his dietary habits fool you—he knows how to play the position.
"We're going to find out this spring," Freeze said of Liggins' chances at remaining at quarterback back in February. "He's a tremendous athlete ... can throw the ball 70, 75 yards.
"He's gotten a bit out of shape ... but he's fighting to get himself down and has already lost 12 pounds. We're real anxious to get to spring and try him out at both at the tight end spot and at quarterback."
Liggins was a four-star dual-threat prospect coming out of high school for the recruiting class of 2012 (and an LSU commit), but that was when he was a lean 270 pounds. He was recently downgraded to a 3-star from Northeast Mississippi Community College, but could be vastly underrated if he continues to shed extra weight.
Playing time is probably a longshot for the 2014 season, with incumbent Bo Wallace returning under center and a talented depth chart. But one thing is for sure—he's better equipped than anyone else to take a mean hit in the SEC.
