You may have read my post that I wrote only a few hours ago about how there are going to be some serious issues at the Olympic Games because of the fact that Western reporters will likely come across some things that Chinese authorities don't want them reporting on. And I'm not just talking about sports stories. It's the classic freedom of the press versus censorship battle. Combined with the fact that it's happening in a hypersensitive, neurotic country only makes it more intriguing. And there's already a rift building because the International Olympic Committee, after promising for years that reporters would have full internet access in Beijing, admitted it made a deal with China to block sensitive sites.
But guess what? China's already losing the battle.A South Korean television station managed to get their hands on a rehearsal of China's Opening Ceremony. Now, this may not seem like a big deal to you, because you never watch the Opening Ceremony anyway. Well, it's a huge deal to China.
Now, here's the interesting thing. The video was on YouTube for a very brief time period (likely because Google has worked with the Chinese Government in the past to censor content). But is it gone for good?
Of course not.
The Australian newspaper has the video up on its site. I can't embed it here, but you can watch it here if you wish.
This will likely result in China being even more hyper-alert during the Games, but things like this are still going to leak out, whether China likes it or not. And I guarantee you, much worse stuff than this will come out.
I guess the only question is what's China going to do to South Korea now? Wipe it off the map would be my guess.
