Olympics considering adding 3-on-3 basketball and BMX racing

The Olympic folks are considering adding 3-on-3 basketball and BMX, but wrestling is on the chopping block?

Wrestling is one of the original olympic sports, and it looks like it won't be around much longer.

On the flip side, there are now reports that the International Olympic Committee is fielding offers for new sports to add, which include things like 3-on-3 basketball and BMX.

Golf and rugby have already been added to the 2016 Rio games.

I have no problem with tweaking the Olympics now and then to reflect the evolution of sporting culture across the globe. However, I don't think it's necessary to get rid of some of the staples of the Olympic games.

Wrestling is still a hugely popular amateur sport in many countries, and is a major component of MMA, one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Go ahead and add sports to the Olympics if you must, but save wrestling. It's the right thing to do.

Golf is being added?! (seriously) Wrestling is way better than golf. I do like the BMX idea. I would watch.

Wrestling should stay, and as for baseball, basketball, hockey, it should be college kids, or at least amateurs. as I agree with Jess what I loved about the Olympics was the traditionalism. One reason why I do not follow any of our basketball or hockey teams in the Olympics and going to the MLB I do not follow inter league games. . We should strive to have our college kids to be the best by upping their game so they can take on professionals from other countries. Lacrosse should  also be added to the Olympics.

Honestly, this will probably cause me not to watch anymore. Not that they need my little 1-person rating (though I don't even think I'm counted, I don't know how that works) but part of what I loved about the Olympics was the traditionalism.

I'm with you, but this is all about making money now. Look at all the hellaballoo around the NHL's involvement at Sochi? Baseball was dropped (essentially) because MLB and Japanese leagues, etc. would shut down for them. Basketball is one torn ACL away from going back to college kids. There's a reason beach volleyball and 5 different kinds of figure skating get so much play. They need programming that people will watch.

Blame all the companies with the TV rights. A few Olympics of poor ratings for traditional events will lead to more and more changes. Track and field is going to change dramatically because of this over the next 20 years. I hate it.
