Orioles Trade Miguel Tejada to Astros Just Before Mitchell Report Unveiling
by CriticalFanatic

You may be wondering why the Baltimore Orioles traded Miguel Tejada to the Houston Astros for an uninspiring group consisting of Luke Scott, Matt Albers, Troy Patton, third base prospect Mike Costanzo. I'd don't think it's just coincidence that this trade comes 24 hours before the Mitchell Investigation report becomes available to the media.

I fully expect Tejada's name to appear on that list and the Astros are left with a skeptical fan base. On that other hand, perhaps they won't care and will only judge their new short stop based on his production in a new environment. It's a situation Miguel has been welcoming for over two years.

Tejada's power numbers have dropped three straight seasons; a number I'd expect to even continue in the tiny Minute Maid Park. It looks like the Orioles got nothing in return for their former All-Star short stop, but I'd call it addition by subtraction. Point Baltimore. Your thoughts?

I find it hard to believe that they couldn't get something in return for Tejada.  He hasn't been that bad, although he does have a rather large contract.

*Anyone watching 1st and 10?  Its sad/hilarious to watch Rob Parker, who seems to hate white people, and Skip Bayless, also a closet racist, debate racial issues.*

I am usually home to watch 1st & 10 during the day and it is really funny sometimes. Friday's they usually have Skip "debate" Stephen A. So far my TV has not exploded... yet.

How exactly did the Orioles get "nothing?" Patton was the #1 prospect in the Astros system, while Constanzo also ranks up there. Luke Scott hit .255/.351/.504 last year, which makes him the second best OF the Orioles have. Albers hasn't pitched well yet in the majors, but at 24 has time to be useful, while Sarfate could end up a useful bullpen arm. All this for a guy who's power has declined three years in a row, as well as his defense, who doesn't take a lot of walks, and was overtly unhappy with being in Baltimore. I'd say that's a decent haul for a player like that.
