The Magic have decided they won't grant Billy Donovan any favors.

The Orlando Magic have decided that if Billy Donovan no longer wants to coach the team -- and they are certain he doesn't -- it is Donovan who will have to take the step to legally break his contract with the team.

Those close to the situation told the Orlando Sentinel that the Magic expect Donovan soon to begin maneuvers to break the five-year, $27.5 million contract he signed with the team Friday -- and then return as coach of the University of Florida Gators at some point.

The Magic would also like a clause in the negotiations to include a mandate that Donovan not return to the NBA for at least 5-years. Since Orlando was completely screwed here, although I'm not willing to absolve them from everything, I have no problem with a little hardball in this situation.

Is this fair on the part of Orlando?

Absolutely. Why not send a message to other coaches? If you sign a contract, you are legally bound to it, so Orlando has every right to fight to keep Donovan. Make sure your heart and soul are in the right places before making a career decision like this.

0	I think it's very fair. If a team signs a coach, especially a big name like Billy Donovan, to try to better the team, and he s**** on them, then yes, they should play hardball. The guy right after signing, sold them many season tickets. If I were a fan and I purchased season tickets solely on the purpose of Donovan, I would want my money back.
